Hello all, I am getting an annoying resonance at 2000-2500 rpm when driving at steady speed with the car under load, for example up a hill. My passenger in particular finds it unpleasant. I was wondering if others have found this and of there might be a mod that could improve things. Perhaps sound deadening materials cleverly applied or in my wildest dreams a free flow exhaust, and remap. All input welcome.

Has it always been there or is it a new drone? It can be anything from "normal" to the fact that the rubber of the gearbox or engine suspension is no longer good, or that the exhaust pipe touches the bodywork somewhere. Can you locate where the droning comes from? In front or behind?

Different car and different engine but I get something similar at those revs up an incline with the engine under medium load.

Don't think it's a vibration as such but it's as though the harmonics combine to give a harsher note to the exhaust and / or intake sounds.

If I apply more engine load, i.e accelerate it goes away but not always possible in traffic or speed limits.

Sometimes if I can see that condition will be needed for some time, up a long hill for example, I will simply drop a gear and change the rev band.

More typical cruising in 5th so I might drop to 4th for a short while then back to 5th when the conditions change.

Don't need to change down a gear for the extra torque but it does make it nicer for the passenger when on longer touring type journeys.

Difficult one, I have a groaning/ squeeking from somewhere within the dashboard, only when going uphill when the engine is under load with a certain throttle position.Tried holding every part of the dash whilst it's happening, Still trying to find the source and eliminate. All part of the full Morgan experience 😂

Yep had an annoying resonance spot around 2600rpm by memory. Really annoying and would drive me nuts on the motorway at around 70mph. You could feel it through the car, the steering wheel and pedals.

Eventually tracked it down to the factory silencer type, part number MEX 1107 (see the little welded on plate). MEX 1107 is the through type so swapped it for a secondhand MEX 1105 and the vibration went away. The through box wasn’t particularly noisy in comparison but it just made the whole car buzz at the critical rpm.

Yes this is it exactly. On the occasions when traffic dictates speed it becomes a bore if it occurs at 2000 in 4th and I change down the revs sit at 2500 in 3rd and still the same resonance, a harmonic component not a mechanical noise from rubbing or vibrating.

OK that’s a strong possibility, I have a feeling it is related to the exhaust specs

When I get that whining from the passenger seat ... the best remedy is to stop and let them out.
