I don’t believe we do “ rename our local dialect of English as the Scots language” we speak English with our own variations of dialect some of which are easier to understand than other and like many places in the rest of the UK have some words local to the area (loons & quines spring to mind in the north east). We do of course have another language called Gaelic.

I believe it is now being taught as a subject in some if not all schools like Gaelic is in the west coast. Personally I think this is good, local culture should not be forgotten.

I'm sure this must have happened in many other areas of the country? Or was it just me oops

Any recollections?

I was pondering on this on the way back from Glasgow the other day. Called for petrol just north of the border and the counter girl had a nice Scottish lilt as you might expect but then it got me to thinking, do any border dwellers have Scottish accents on the English side and visa versa.

So for instance, do any Berwick residents sound like Rab C Nesbitt or perhaps do Gretna Greeners have a Dick Van Dyke accent?

Or maybe a strange mixture like those in the top corner of North Yorks who come under the gravitational pull of Tyneside and then every tea time have to sing “though shalt have fishy in a ......

life is strange dads family comes from Aberdeen , I was born down here yet when ever I am with the jocks I feel I am closer to them . I was up there with my wife and a lady give me a tongue lashing as I got a word wrong . Its not the 1st time as years ago a lady up there in her mid 80s almost took my head off . I thought hell I can see myself and just got my grin on I can not help it the sound of a Scottish ladies voice is so sexy .
