For those that use Whatsapp I hope you realize it is owned by Facebook and data is shared across platforms unless you go through the process of stopping the sharing!!! It is also worth stating that for those that do not have Facebook but order online or read your magazine/paper online or listen to music or use a search engine such as Google, etc. etc. then your data is being mined.

Been on FB for about 15 years and can't say I've ever knowingly had any issues with data theft. I check my bank acounts at least daily, and have a clearscore account which allegedly does a sweep of the darkweb, and shows me any credit checks done in my name.

I have a several google mini speakers round the house so I have no secrets from the t'interweb!

For very little money they could have a simple forum, advertising free, closed to non members, and not constrict people to join Facebook. There is plenty of free software out there which is capable of setting up such a site.

Fortunately this sort of obligatory Facebook thing is going out of fashion.

We went the other way - closed our forum and used Facebook instead. 95% already had a FB account, and for most, they'd log in to FB on a daily basis, but only onto the forum once a week if that. FB contained all the functiionality we needed - posts/videos/events/photos, at zero cost, and had additional functionality such as messenger. Admins still had control over content and were able to moderate just as well.

Works much better.

In my environment only few are on FB while most people use Whatsapp (which was purchased by FB)

Facebook is an incredible resource. I am a member of over 50 groups covering every field of interest, some general, some very specific.

In terms of data mining, I am an order of magnitude in credit.

WOW, thank you so much chaps, this has just gone to prove how good TM is. I only access FB on specific car related "private" groups which I had to request to join. I don't have a personal page ( as far as I am aware ) and I would not know how to get onto all the other sites you chaps have mentioned.
I feel that, although I have only met a few members on here personally, I do feel part of a great group of very inteligent pleasant people, long may it continue.
