It’s a big problem getting the S5 to the nearest Morgan garage for its service so thinking about a local classic/sports specialist (IK Classics) next service. They do lots of varied high end and classic stuff - also some classic Morgan’s.

Does anyone use an independent garage?

What are the potential problems and is there anything to be aware of that a Morgan dealer would sort that an Indy garage might miss?

Does the wing have to come off for a service?

I don't use an independent...
There is so much that is a bit "left field" about the Aeros that I simply wouldn't feel comfortable. It may be a BMW engine and box, but the engine management computer has Morgan elements overlaid.
My local BMW specialist said, after hooking up to a BMW ECU diagnostic computer...no thanks.

A specialist is unlikely to have the Morgan service check sheet for the model, there are oddities not found on other cars and they could be missed, like greasing the propshaft UJ and splines...
Also, sourcing anything needed from Morgan is hard enough for a Morgan dealer, for an independant I suspect it would be harder.
The wings don't need to come off until 60,000 miles for a plug change.

My Aero Plus 8 has been serviced by the factory or by Williams since I purchased it in 2016. It is a 90 min drive and they need the car for 2 days, but they do provide a courtesy car, included in the service price.

Last thought, I wouldn't by an Aero or CX based Morgan that had been serviced outside the Morgan dealer world. I suspect that other Morgan owners might feel the same. The trads are different.

You've got Ledgerwood to the east or Oakmere to the west, can't they fit you in ?

Definitely wouldn’t use an Indy for the Aero for reasons above. Not a chance.

Not sure if I’d use one on the trad either.

Better stick with Ledgerwood on the Aero. Always had the Plus Four serviced by local garages - never failed an MOT and runs fine and is reliable so not sure what a Morgan dealer would do better.

If it was a Porsche or Ferrari id be happy going to a specialist garage who had experience of them rather than a Main Stealer, but a local garage would be unlikely to have worked on an Aero.

Maybe full Morgan specialist service history isnt as important on a Trad especially an older one, however a full Morgan service history does look good to buyers if you ever sell.

Some of the elements on an Aero can be done by an Indie but I would be careful of elements that are quite specific.

Electronics are quite heavily custom and parts not easy to find
Dashboard removal and changes require the hands of a 6 year old and knowledge of how to jam the cables back
Access around the engine bay needs things done in the right order.
All the AirCon and radiator area needs careful handling as the pipes are quite custom I believe
The rose joints in the rear suspension need some resources.

Brakes pads or disc, nah.

My local garage also know how to MoT my Aero which does require a degree of understanding. Try holding the emission test probe up a 4 inch sidepipe and see what reaction you get!
The windscreen wipers have never ever parked effectively so new wiper blades prior to the MoT are always handy and they remember to do them.

Either way I would try and build a good relationship with one of your local dealers or a specialist like Simon.

Probably a bit far away David, but Mark Middleton often works on Aero 8 - ex-MMC mechanic.

I think James BW uses Mark..for his scruffy S1..

He travels from the Northeast and has a short mini break whilst car being serviced.

Also handy for Factory visit while being serviced.
