Yep, in an ideal world. We are getting reports that they are meeting up, but unfortunately once they're off site, they are their parents responsibility and some of our parents are not very responsible!

Not sure if this might help
School Covid Tracker

Looks interesting - will suggest it to the head.

Yes, all my posts on TM are recommended by SAGE, FENSA and the RSPB.

Seems like you are smarter than all of them put together

Looks like I am.

The head has just had a meeting with PHE where they have suggested closing the whole school down until the 30th of November as a firebreak to prevent the spread of infection. They are now looking at the logisitics to assess the feasibility and impact to the community.

Sounds like a sensible step. Good that you are being kept in the loop too - speaks volumes for your head.

She is very good - communication is fabulous and she certainly makes everyone feel part of a team, with the confidence to talk to her and suggest things for improvement at any time.

The Zoe School Tracker App is strongly recommended.
I've used their personal app since the beginning.

We are very fortunate down in South Wilts. The local primary/junior school has no pupil or teacher off with suspected covid since they returned after half term. Before that all those sent home because they presented with what may have been covid symptoms tested negative.
Clearly in the larger population centers things are different.
I still think it would be very informative to take a school like yours and test, on the same day, all staff and pupils. My guess is there would be a lot of asymptomatic positives, which would give PHE and the Head something to think about: what benefit would there be in closing down? Discuss!

I note in the papers today, some are blaming 'teachers having coffee breaks' for the spread! Always the teachers fault....

The issue we have, highlighted by PHE, is that there was no obvious or quantifiable link between the cases we have been getting. We've only had to send three kids home today so far, and that was due to a car share, and the Dad /driver has tested positive.

As I said earlier - firebreak now, everyone home to isolate for 10 days - by the time they come back, everyone 'should' be clear. Then three weeks back in school,.then another 2 week break (xmas hols). Perhaps extend that by a week to cover everyone ignoring social distancing rules over christmas. Then reassess on the new year depending on the cases/infection rates.

Head is currently in with PHE now to discuss how we go forward. School is very quiet (lots of parents keeping kids off regardless) so by amalgamating classes we are just managing to put a teacher in every class. However, in doing so, we are increasing the risk of infection between groups who normally wouldn't be in lessons together!

Our local high school has approx 1350 pupils isolating out of 1500
The similar sized 6th form college round the corner has very few off, but the pupils only go in for a couple of hours each week but it still needs a regular police presence outside to disperse large groups of pupils.
The infant/junior school down the road has only a few pupils off out of 1200 - but it looks like the older brothers & sisters that are supposed to be isolating from the high school are the ones picking up their younger siblings from school.

To me this seems like an awful lot of people that could get infected very very quickly.

So, PHE are now not allowing a firebreak, and wanted us to bring back yr9 and 10 on Monday. Head has managed to overturn that, so at least they'll be off till 30th.

Be interesting to see how this pans out over the next few weeks.....

After a really difficult week for many in the teaching profession, it was reassuring to wake this morning to news of a probable 3 year pay freeze to help bail out the government again, just like we did after the banking crisis......
