I really enjoyed tham!

cook it yourself and pay for the privilege - I love it! - can you send it back if it`s underdone? confused

I think I must be confused.
You go to a restaurant (a place that serves meals, usually in a finished form), pay over the odds for drinks then cook it yourself.
I assume they prepare a bit of salad or a spud. Do you have to wash up as well?
I have a strange feeling no chef from here is on Masterchef and the folks from Michelin have yet to give them a star or two.
I can imagine the initial business discussion
I’m opening a restaurant
Oh that’s expensive
Will you need a trained chef?
No, they’ll cook it themselves.
What about waiters, good ones are expensive
Nope just a bloke who chucks some coal in a hole, brings out uncooked food and delivers drinks.
A barman?
I’ll need one of them.
Let me get this right, you want to open a restaurant but not actually cook anything and people will pay premium for this?
Yep

The Yuppies love that kind of thing, there is a place called China Blue in Totnes and they are rammed in the holiday season with visiting grown up's and their fry wanting to decorate some non descript bit of white china with their own special design. They pay a lot of money and get posted the piece once it has been fired, so you can sell anything to idiots with lots of brass.

One saving grace they have a fairly decent restaurant for a light lunch.

The cook your own steak thing is popular in Brasil and I have been to something similar in Madrid in the 1990's.
As I stopped ordering steaks in restaurants many years ago because they were always over cooked, a hot plate to cook my own is something I quite enjoy when the opportunity arises. Whilst I get to cook my steak how I like it, someone else has to prepare and cook all the veggies and the pud. And load the dishwasher. If I don't have to drive to get there, even better.
