Agreed Jon that could be the cause. I have to say there were no signs of it when driving. But some other issues with them have made me think the local folk will be just as good.

As has been said, how does one know how thorough a garage is? If it is a Morgan main dealer then at least they should know their cars even if they charge full main dealer cost. Try Mark Middleton, former MMC tech. Knows the cars very well, including the foibles. Bit of a trek for you from Somerset Paul...

Well my S1 Roadster is in repair at one dealer. They told me the wear on the drivers side king pin was "one of the worst they had seen (46k on Devol bushes). When is was serviced prior to the accident by another well known Morgan dealer they had an advisory of a slight wear on the passenger side only. I well remember Colin (Spanner Juggler) replacing Ken's (not seen him post for quite a while - UVK33N?) king pins at around the 80k mile mark. The wear (Devol bushes) was horrendous. However, one must bear in mind that the standard MoT check has the front of the car lifted slightly (wheel off the ground), putting the stub axles at one end of the KP, outside of the main wear region.

He was my spanner man until we moved north, and out of normal range. He was thorough, and knew a lot, having worked at Morgan for around 12 years. Unfortunately, he is my 240 mile round trip, which I am trying to avoid, much as I prefer him.

As you say Graham, probably to far away to contemplate, Exeter is a wee bit closer. Does anybody have an actual figure they can quote for a mid range service?

Graham, I agree on the MOT guy but surely an MMC dealer would also check the king pins & understand about the effect of tyres on or off the ground? John

My local MOT station has two plates on the ramp you place the front wheels on. They are hydraulic and move the wheels whilst the suspension is loaded. Slight wear observed on the nearside of my car at 15k miles, I asked when I should start to worry and the tester replied " when it starts becoming a problem whilst driving"

As andymot said earlier, £500-700 is quite possible. I just dug out a bill for my 2011 Plus 4, and the annual service + MOT was £522 inc VAT. The parts cost for a few minor items was £145, which included £65 for 5.5 litres of Shell Helix Ultra 05W30. That was done last October at Williams.

£700? I'd better start saving then. This is the reason I needed to know, I can sell the dog now and put my wife out to work.

I suspect "should" is more likely the word when it comes to some workshops John. Somewhere on here are the photos Colin posted of the KPs removed from Ken's +4. I doubt yours are worn as much, but Ken had somewhere close to 80k miles on original pins...
