Hello Everyone,
As we all speculate what will/might happen going forwards, I have just been given some information, from a reliable US source, as follows.
The X-Wedge is no longer being produced by S&S, they have a small inventory of parts/spares, with no plan to produce any more.
The design and manufacturing rights for this engine have been sold entirely to a foreign (non US) company. They will not say where or who, but have said an announcement will be made in January 2021.
Would or could this be something to do with MMC - making/refining the engine themselves (in UK) thereby avoiding any tariffs etc?
I don't suppose S&S have sold very many more than those taken by MMC for the M3W (circa 2500 units?)
Has anybody else heard this information?
Without S&S involvement, how will we get on for spares? Are MMC/S&S supposed to support their product with spares for a certain time?
What do you think?
Andrew

I would hope that the purchaser will keep the parts market going, this is what has happened on numerous other “classic” vehicles, although the numbers sold are relatively small here. Best outcome might have been the MTWC crowd funding the purchase for the ongoing benefit of its members.

If there were more 5 Speeder members of the MTWC, then that may have been a (remote) possibility but as the percentage of owners who are club members is only about 5% I doubt that will ever happen. Out of the 2500 or so cars produced, how many owners are on this forum or even known to it? Not many. There must be a lot of M3W's sat in garages, not having any mechanical issues, with quietly satisfied owners. It will be interesting to see what happens with the X-Wedge.

I’m mindful of the recent TV series that included how a Morgan is made and the MMC guy proudly stating their ethic of pretty much indefinitely supplying parts for their vehicles. I guess we’re going to find out it that is true.

Thinking a bit more about this, as the Morgan Three Wheeler Company was dissolved in July 2019 but the current run out of new M3Ws includes the X Wedge, is it supplied by MMC directly and if so what is MMC saying to new or prospective new owners? If I was buying a P101 for £55k I’d definitely be asking the question about future parts supply?

Any way to find that out?
