Thank you all, as always, for your kind words of support.

One suggestion, it would be sad if the commercial providers could no longer share their profound knowledge. What if we had a nailed down thread where all the commercial vendors could be seen and of course declared as such in the thread title. So everybody knows that they are commercial providers. It is no longer a "partially under cover".
Just the contact information and the business area. Not meant as an advertisement but as an orientation guide if you want to buy something or have a repair or improvement done.

These commercial providers would then change their template and share their knowledge as private persons in the usual sections. Because on the other hand they would disappear completely. Any personal consultation must be done through PM but generally useful knowledge could be shared in public.

Heinz, this is very much the way it has worked and I am not unhappy for this to continue. Many people who have products, that benefit the community, have been respectful of the TM forum and approached me asking for permission to post one topic about their offering. Almost every time, this has been granted and on many occasions encouraged by myself; my attitude being that if it could help a member of the community, I am all for that knowledge (or product / service) being promoted.

In limiting it to one post, we avoid the issue of 'billboards' popping up everywhere on the site and, if it isn't of interest to members, they can avoid the thread. Signatures on the other hand can not be avoided and people promoting products often speed post to get their web site link out as often as possible.

So, to summarise, if it helps the community and the poster is an active, positive, member of Talk Morgan, I have no issue at all with them creating one post, in the relevant forum, explaining what they can offer the community.

I do, however, have an issue with people who are not active members, or are part of a large commercial business (dealers, factory made parts companies, etc) coming onto TM to plug their product. Those post will be removed and the user banned.

It really is a fine line but like all things with TM, I try to be fair and reasonable and treat intelligent adults as such. Most of the community behaves in that manner but just like I spend far too much time having to manually approve new members to block spammers, every once in awhile there is someone who knows they are taking advantage and simply doesn't care. At times like these, I have to step in for the good of the community as a whole. As I said, it is a fine line but I am sure most people understand what is acceptable and what isn't.

As I understand it, there are one or two of our favourite dealers who monitor posts but don't actually post themselves in order to preserve the forum as intended.

Simon's approach (above) ensures that they are not disadvantaged by the more aggressive folks out there.

Long may this continue.

Many thanks Simon for supporting our Morgan habit - especially this year.

For over a decade Talk Morgan has been a privately funded, non-commercial, community. Some of the members have kindly donated toward the ongoing costs of running the site and whilst this is appreciated, it is never expected.

The reason the site has never allowed commercial advertising is to ensure the community, and site management, remains impartial and not beholden to advertisers. I have been approached many times over the years to sell advertising and monetise the site; this has always been met with a polite 'no thank you.'

Talk Morgan is for the community and I would ask that all who use the community respect these guidelines.

For the sake of clarity: a signature that promotes your business, whether you sell a service, part or product, aimed at Morgan, is considered advertising. This is not allowed.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Nice approach - makes this place a pleasant one to visit. Shame about the funny old cars but you cant have everything hide

Last bump for this - after that, when I see them, I will consider the user ignoring the terms of use of the site and take appropriate steps.
