Turning left must have been fun. A few blind spots there

There was even a sidecar boat available, in the sixties.

Have quized my better half and her brother's self-driving sidecar outfit was a Norton Big 4 ... lots of torque there .... she herself has owned both a 600 and 650 Panther sidecar outfits as well as a Ural combo (not 2wd unfortunately) .... never been a sidecar fan myself I must admit but have been dragged back from the pub more than once in one so have to concede some utility factor. smile

I can remember when I was a kid when no-one down our street owned a car, but there were a couple of huge family sidecar outfits like those above but hauled by BSAs

Oh, and as regards the Ural, one of my mates in the Motorcycle Club at Uni, known to all as "The Urinal". (He also had a Suzuki Katana as his "real" bike).

No disrespect, but it remains, without exception, the worst motorcycle I've ever ridden.

My first experience of motorcycles was riding in my grandfathers sidecar with my grandmother that was until he upgraded to an Austin seven !

The Urals from the USSr era were screwed together extremely carelessly. But that has changed significantly, the new bikes are nearly as reliable as the bikes of other brands. Unfortunately, they have also become very expensive today. I myself still have a 1994 Ural 650, which you have to tinker with more.

Remember when 'Oily' Wells was the British importer they had a batch of Urals that wouldn't start, after trying everything someone noticed that the main jets didn't have the hole drilled down the middle ..... bit rough and ready but, as Jens says, much improved .... but at a price.

The best Eastern Block bike by far was the MZ .... excellent thing for what it was .... had a 250 for ages as a tourer and commuter that never missed a beat .... the CZ not so much!! smile

K

Ps ... can still hear the distinctive 'ring-ding-ding' of that MZ motor!!
