WARNING: Potentially Misplaced Optimism Evening all, When all this COVID inconvenience etc goes away, I think I should push myself and travel abroad in the Morgan. First on the list for me is the Memorial at Cambrai, the route looks straight forward for a novice and I shouldnt have many issues, apart from my non-existant French and remembering to drive on the 'wrong' side of the road (hopefully) However, I cannot get the hang of how the Autoroutes and the tolls etc work, it looks very complicated to me? I have visions of causing a tailback and massive inconvenience at a booth! It's a bit off-putting as a large part of the route would involve these unless I go cross-country. Can any of the more seasoned continental drivers enlighten me? Thanks in advance.

I use a tag from https://www.emovis-tag.co.uk/french-toll-tagsThis makes it much easier as you don't need to find cash / cards and at most toll stations they have a 30kph lane where you can keep driving through the toll and it will just sense your tag.

Another vote for the tag. Good value for money given just how easy it makes things and all settled by Direct Debit.

I have never used emovis but it sounds good to me. I look for points of particular interest along the way and take a detour sometimes. A virtual drive using Google maps is usefull in searching out the scenic stuff or to help locate our Airbnb stopovers. I am lost without my Garmin Nuvii GPS, while my Mrs ponders her maps and has a vocal overide function. (A shrill note registering around eee # sharp).

We had planned to take the Morgan to France in 2020 but events had other ideas. My only concern are some of the rather alarming speed humps you find in every small town along the interesting routes. I feel I might end up grounded on several.

Hi, I did numerous times France with my Plus4 GDI and with the tyres inflated at 1.8 I didn’t get any issues so far. Alain

Simples...avoid auto routes. I always spend time planning my journey to avoid auto routes wherever possible and practicable, and enjoy the benefits of the relatively deserted C and D roads. It’s one of the main reasons for going to France for a drive holiday. Yes, it may take a little longer but does it really matter? You have a double whammy to deal with in a RHD Morgan of course: toll booth will be on the wrong side and the car is too low to reach. The hood up, will make it virtually impossible. Even with a passenger to do the business, she probably won’t be able to reach.
