Yes, KISS. That or take out the bulb but that is more difficult.

The battery this evening shows 12.4v and 95% charged on the RING charger/conditioner. We shall see what happens overnight!

My Aero plus 8 does exactly the same, light glows dimly when ignition is off and brightly when heated screen is working. I would imagine it does drain the battery eventually but I always knock the power switch off under the bonnet when parked up overnight so can't comment.

And what happened...?
12.4v and 80% charge.
I'll charge it to 100% and then see how long it holds. More in a few days.

I'll charge it to 100% and then see how long it holds. More in a few days. FWIW Peter 12.4 volts if an accurate off load figure taken an hour or so after last use, equates to 70% charge of whatever battery capacity you have. Don't be fooled by figures from your charger. Can I assume you were holding back from charging whilst the screen heater switch lamp was off using the trick you found of turning off engine with heater on, in order to establish any reduced drain? By far the best way to check on drain is to insert an ammeter of sufficient range (several amps) in either of the main battery leads and not after any split. Don't be tempted to turn anything on whilst performing this test as you'll likely blow the meter.

I put the charger on, presently showing 12.9v and 90%. When it is showing 100% I'll stop the charge and leave it, to see how it lasts!!

11:30 am the battery charger test is showing 13.7v, 100% charge. I've disconnected the charger and will check again every. 24 hours until the battery charge has dropped to 70%. Not exactly exciting... but interesting!

Peter, I hope it works out for you. I hate modern car electrics. Far too complex frankly.

John,
in the end it is almost academic.
If turning the ignition off with the heated screen on solved the loss of charge then the job is done. If it does not then we have an unknown drain, so I know:
1. The battery loses charge with time. 2. I have a battery maintenance charger 3. As long as I remember to keep the car connected to the charger I can always start the engine...
