If like me you're regularly fiddling with electrics then a decent set of sharp side cutters are essential particularly when cutting thin cables. The best I've ever used are the compact box joint Swedish made Lindstrom ones from my old 70's BBC tool kit, still in excellent condition to this day. These are kept in a small toolbox on my narrowboat though. The clunky large scissor joint versions available seem to blunt after the first heavy cut so decided to order another pair of box joint Lindstom's for home use, adding to the pride I get from owning quality tools. After much searching including Lindstrom's own website, I was dissapointed to find they no longer make the box joint versions, which eliminate the twisting action on the scissor joint, so maintaining alignment of cutting edges. Further searching found an eBay supplier in the USA that had new old stock though, as linked below and at a reasonable price, although shipping and pre-paid customs charges knocked it up quite a bit.

Pleased to say they arrived within two weeks of order as promised, with excellent tracking and exactly as expected.

Nice, I like a good tool, and a decent set of side cutters are a joy.

My mate on BR had a pair of side-cutters which were really handy. He had cut through a live wire and blown out a perfect circle just the right diameter to bare a relay feed wire.

One of the wealthy lads at tech college had Lindstrom stuff, I had to make do with something similar but as mine were Sheffield steel they were a close second & still going strong 40+ years later

Now't wrong wi that Jon. Reminds me of a TV prog I worked on in the 70's at one of the few remaining steel works in Sheffield. The producer recorded a long clip of the last steam driven rolling mill as straw was chucked on top of the red hot steel to immediately explode and blow off the shale. The massive three cylinder engine regularly reversing as the ingot of steel passed back and forth on the mill was mesmerising to watch and seemingly effortless.

Those cutters are a thing of beauty.

I can still strip most thin wire accurately with a decent pair of side cutters.

The original ones from my original (1980) Plessey tool kit are now relegated to duty as toe nail clippers but are still sharp.

We chose our own company kit at Decca and Lindstrom were the standard and still going strong, you get what you pay for.

Elliot Lucas the English equivalent were a little agricultural in comparison.
