Maybe that is so but if you have an accident you might have a non road worthy car or if get stopped by the plod I guess you could be fined. Knowing my luck I removed them.

I'll ask my MoT tester when I take the Morgan in, but for now I'm back on H4s.

I gave mine a good clean today and had a look at the headlamps. I have wipac crystals and they have a centre cap that covers the bulb - you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between halogens and LED from a visual inspection.

OK looks like we can take a view that LED lights for indicators etc if not E marked then they are not approved by who ever for road use even though they are brighter etc...
So if an accident was to occur are we saying that the insurance companies and plod wold not be happy with non E marked lights...and perhaps cast a dim view..?

Agreed, but that wasn't the question. I'm pretty sure the FOS would not uphold a refusal to pay due to a LED indicator bulb.

Agreed but they might for a night time incident with illegal headlights. That was my point. So despite the LEDs being far better I went back to H4s

So despite the LEDs being far better I went back to H4s Yes - I would imagine with headlights you may be on sticky ground as it is a specific declared MOT fail item. However, I wonder if insurance would also refuse to pay out if you have poorly aligned standard Halogen lights that dazzle? That's also an MOT fail. The thread was discussing indicator/Sidelight 382 style bulbs and I still don't think plod/insurance will care if you've changed them, or find grounds to fine you, or refuse to pay out on a claim.

Insurers have variations in how they treat mods. Some are more lenient than others. In general, performance upgrades tend to be the ones they watch for but other mods vary depending what they are. It is worth asking them whether any mods will affect the cover/cost/ excesses. If you have a crash then they will cover 3rd party costs but may not cover yours. They don’t void your insurance at that time for an incident but if they find out you have significant mods without an incident they would contact you to either tell you they withdraw cover or up your premium. The dilemma is what mods do you have to declare. Fit SSL front suspension? Would they consider that a notifiable mod? A lesser one of just the bearing mod? I think the specialist Morgan insurers would be more aware of such mods and be ok. Engine tune ups? More likely to be notifiable. It’s a minefield!
