Hello All - This is for our 1934 Super Sports with JAP LTWZ 1100cc sidevalve engine, that is being fitted with a 6 volt Thorspark electronic ignition kit. Just a couple of questions.
I originally posted this question / questions on the Classic Morgans forum, mistakenly thinking that only new 3 wheelers were being addressed. Based on replies I got from the "Classic Morgans" forum, i have modified a question about the generator. So here I am.
1) I am using the 6 volt starter, generator and lights. May I ask what the original Battery Electrical Specs were for this particular JAP engine as used in the 3 wheeler? Please include ampere hours.
2) The Lucas generator has a belt driven pulley via a crankshaft pulley. I was told that this was not the original means of driving the dynamo, rather from the gearbox. Given this, may I ask those of you who have maintained their 6 volt system (starter, dynamo and all ), but elected to use a pulley, what the diameter of the pulley is ? I just wanted to get an idea, because the pulley is missing...
Oh, I asked as well because my father, who bought this in the late 1970s or early 1980's, says he bought it and never used the starter and Battery, relying solely on the magneto. Apparently he only did fun drives during the day. So that's probably why no effort was made earlier on to locate a proper pulley.
I appreciate any help. Thank you. Patrick
