Bonesie's project reminds me of a german sailor I met in harbour in Gijon in northern spain. He was an engineer working for Thyssen Edelstahlwerke. He was in his own steel boat that he had made himeslf and when I say made , I mean it. The boat was maybe 40ft long. To form the hull sheets he had taken flat steel plate and used a sledgehammer on it in a sand pit, but actually got it very fair. He had made the mast himself together with all the rigging fittings and items like steering wheel and winches even. Converted a Merc truck diesel engine making his own heat exchangers and exhaust. He had even gone so far as to make his own stainless plates cups and cultery for the boat. And to crown it all, on the bow between the guardrails on the two sides he had made and installed a stainless steel globe about 2 ft diameter showing the outlines of every land mass cut in sheet and welded onto a wire mesh sphere. Magnificent work.

Nice chap but very Germanic. Ropes all cheesed down, wore a boiler suit emblzoned chief engineer together with a peaked cap. Ensign up and down bang on time, everything immaculate. He was sailing on his own!

P.S. Bonesie - for your next project why dont you re-create a car in the style / era of the Morgan - maybe even a Bugatti re-creation?
