Does anyone know the standard fit shock absorbers are for this? Or a useful replacement. Bog standard car.

Not sure what the original dampers were, but a popular replacement are AVOs, although Koni and Spax have their fans. Tim Ayers at New Elms can sort you out with a set.

Originals would have been a factory design that are awful. So much so most buyers had the dealer remove the factory fit & replace them.
A good source of info is here Shocks

On my 94 4/4 I fitted Konis which were fine. Heavier cars do better with AVOs etc.

I've replaced with AVO. Not had any issues.

The Konis mentioned on GoMog seem to only be adjustable on installation as the adjustable feature is compromised once the vehicle bottoms out. Is this still the case?

I think so. It was what 15 years ago.

Actually, they must be Rutherford AVOs and sold by Tim who took over from David.. The AVOs made for Morgan and designed by AVO are very lousy.

The Rutherford designed AVOs are very different. David liked the KONI dampening rates, so he copied them and AVO made them in different sizes to suit various Morgans and their various rear suspension. KONIs are more expensive (to no effect) and their adjustment ability ends after the first few miles..while AVOs take a bit more time to become non-adjustable.

BTW, people mistake the goal of shock adjustability. It merely is a feature to allow stocking to cover many cars and driving styles in one shock/damper. It is not to run out an re-adjust your dampening with different loads. These shocks arrive in the recommended adjustment out of the box..for Morgans, that is always the softest setting. No point in buying Morgan shocks and then adjusting them to make the reason you bought these specific shocks moot.

In the front, one should adjust until you get 1.5 nods when you go over a road anomaly.

I bought Spax (non adjustable) from Melvyn Rutter for my '68 4/4. No complaints.

Bought the last set of Rutherford AVOs from John Worral on ebay as he was clearing stock. Cheaper than non adjustables!

AVO are just up the road from me. I had a chat with them about the shocks when I was looking to get some for mine a couple of years ago. I noted that the Rutherford ones were considerably more expensive than their generic Morgan ones, but they confirmed that they were made specifically for New Elms and had a different specification. To their credit, they wouldn't reveal any details or sell me something 'similar'.

In the end, got them directly from New Elms.
