The car started making a noise and we think it's the centa drive giving up the ghost. I've tried to upload a 253 KB sound file but get the message that it's too big

It's clunking sound at idle.

If you out to the Facebook group Morgan Three-Wheeler Touring Group there's a video of the noise

Dutch,

Sorry to hear this.

With the engine off(!), stick a finger into the hole in the bottom of the centa housing and see if you can pull out any rubber chunks. That will tell you if the centa rollers are breaking up.

Under what condition does it make sound? Idle? Revving in neutral? Gear engaged but clutch pedal depressed? In gear driving?

Under idle it’s the worse. Revving it does. Gear engaged clutch depressed it does. In gear driving We couldn’t really hear it.

We'll jack it up tomorrow and check for chunks.

Thanks for the quick response

Dutch, what year is your M3W? Does it by chance still have the original Harley compensator used prior the advent of the Centa drive coupling?

Had a listen on the M3W Touring Group facebook and it does sound like a dead Harley compensator, although the Centa makes a similar noise if the crank nut comes loose. I wouldn't run it any more as the Harley compensators can cause crank spline damage when they fail, they twist the splines or the end of the crank fails entirely. The Harley compensator can be replaced with another but a Bleazey converted Centa would be the best solution. Either way the engine will have to come out to see what the damage is.

It's a 2012 so it's probably a Harley but we don't know for sure. I'm leaning toward a Bleazey conversion if I can find someone to do the work

Does anyone know of someone in the US that can do the work. ? Emil just retired and he was the MTW wizard here in the US

Remember the Bleazey conversion requires a Centa compensator which you'll have to source from a Morgan dealer or the factory.

The magnet test showed us that we've got a Harley compensator. We've ordered a combo replacement from Phil
