The picnic is going ahead tomorrow Wednesday 8th of September.

After two failed attempts due to Covid19 (2020 and earlier this year) the picnic is finally happening.

Hive Beach is a stunning location on the Dorset coast and is run by the National Trust. Well worth a visit and there is a café there. www.hivebeachcafe.co.uk

Speaking to Graham Keen (Fossilmog Centre Secretary) yesterday, he is hoping for a decent turnout, despite being midweek. (The NT’s preferred day).
There is a large dedicated parking and picnic area for the Morgans.

Well, other than a light shower late morning, the sun shone and around 70 Morgans made the trip to Hive Beach.
The Morgans ranged from a 1938 Flat Rad to the latest Plus Fours.
Brilliant day and huge thanks to Graham and Kim (Fossilmog) for arranging.

I'm not an MSCC member David so sorry I can't tell you, I know Budster and PaulJ have been regular attendees on here - maybe worth a PM to them.

Email just received to say EVENT IS GOING AHEAD AS PLANNED

Monday morning.
I have just had a conversation with Graham Keen, the Fossilmog Centre Secretary, and the decision has been made that the picnic will go ahead on Wednesday, as planned.
Graham has spoken to local MSCC Centres, as well as the National Trust.
We’ll look forward to welcoming any Morgan to this lovely venue. You don’t have to be an MSCC member.
If you’ve not been before, you won’t be disappointed.
Hive Beach is glorious.
The turning to the beach is just to the east of Burton Bradstock.
Also Charles Neal is due to be there selling copies of his book ‘Morgan The March Of Progress’
£35 - but please bring CASH, as there is no mobile phone/internet signal at the beach, for Charles to take card payments.

I was thinking of attending, but as of last week I now have two tours that day. Enjoy the picnic!

Great day, thanks to Graham and the FossilMog team also for arranging such wonderful weather too!!

Due to a sprained ankle, I couldn't drive the Roadster there, but it was a splendid event. Didn't do an exact count, but I reckon 80 cars -- from Flat Rads to Trads to Aeros to CX's, but no 3-wheelers. Met some super people. I had my own favourite "Best in Show", but will wait until FossilMog post the winner. Here are a few pics:

It was a great day, blessed with clear blue skies in the afternoon.
I’m not sure if anyone did an exact count, but my guess was between 70 and 80 of Malvern’s Finest.
By popular vote, the car of the show was the lovely red and black flat rad. (photo of the engine bay above)
Also, the furthest travelled was TM’s very own ‘Burgundymog’ with a distance of c200 miles, each way.

Charles Neal was also there in his sporty Plus 4 flat rad, selling copies of his book ‘Morgan - The March of Progress’

We stayed around, with Graham and Kim until the last cars were on their way.
(There was not a single piece of rubbish left anywhere on the field )

So thanks, on behalf of Graham and Kim and Fosslmog to everyone who attended.
Hopefully, there will be another picnic planned for next year and I would recommend attending to any TMer.
Very relaxed, a wonderful venue and a fantastic beach café, should you forget your picnic.

We arrived at the site of the ghastly accident on the A35 eastbound about 5 mins after it happened. Had I not pulled-over shortly before, to take a call.....

I think it's been one of those weeks. We travelled from Minchinhampton to Woolacombe last Tuesday, and faced two road closures, a bunch of middle-aged lycra clad cyclists who should be doing something more productive on a Tuesday, and a selection of tractors and tipper wagons under our feet. Not to mention a sea of red mud on the road in North Devon. Having said that, when the road opened up, there was not much about.

On Friday we came home from Woolacombe and quickly remembered why Friday travel is a bad choice. Queues at Tiverton before the M5. Three lanes of traffic going between 60 and 10mph, and worse still at Bristol. An accident Southbound had cause chaos which lasted all afternoon according to the radio reports. The M42 was ghastly, with long queuesand 40mph when we got lucky, so we used the M6Toll, which was busier than I've ever seen it, because the M6 further North was blocked and the diversion was M42..............At least we could gain time for a few miles.
The A38 wasn't so bad until the first Derby roundabout, with long queues. I feared the worst, but the next two roundabouts were clear, which was unexpected.

We had advance warning that the M18 was blocked, and so we left the M1 two junctions before, but the route and timing meant running two school emptyings, with the ensuing chaos. As we crossed the M18 at our get off point it had just reopened, and I expected chaos, but the roads there were OK. Another school shootout on a country lane followed. Then the road, which is a country lane, falls rapidly through a series of blind bends down to a T junction. Youfs often hit the banking here because the laws of physics don't allow for stupidity, but there's also a big risk from scything round these bends and finding a queue of traffic waiting at the junction. Well, a couple of minutes earlier, an SUV has come round the bend and ploughed into the back of the queue. Coolant all over the road and two write offs. Once we got past this, the next village had a mile queue to the lights, and we lost over half an hour over about three miles. Eventually we got home but two hours later than expected.

Bad luck Dave. We try not to travel on Fridays down here. Hideous traffic from the moment we leave home. Same Sunday evening.
