The US (being a more pragmatic society at times) has a better system - they use the term "not for profits" to describe entities that - if they are not there to create profit, are presumably for some other beneficial purpose - we call "charities". Of course the term "charity" has a connotation among the public for welfare, which causes some dissent when facing charities like the Royal Opera House or non-state-funded educational establishments.

US "Not for Profit" entities can be as aggressively money grabbing as for profits
All not for profit means is that profits are not dispersed externally.

From 1994 until 2011 I had regular contact, as a customer, with the United States Pharmacopeia, a not for profit supporting the pharmaceutical industry.
If sought profit at every opportunity, to fuel its ego and reserves.
The Corporate HQ was pretentious, the sense of entitlement shameless.
