Hi Iam new to this forum.Had my 2007 +4 for 5years and do my own maintenance. 5year ago I repaired the tool tray and have just had to do it again. I am looking to improve what will be an old problem to you all i.e the diff hitting the tool tray when I manage to find a significant pot hole..New springs and AVO’s were fitted 4 years ago and improved the situation a little.
I seem to have two options :-
1) Add bump stops to the shock absorber rods
2)Add the spring assisters detailed in Dave W article in February Miscellany
Can anyone advise :- a)which is most effective ?.
b)Where I can obtain the Spring Assisters in Dave’s article

As you have tried tackling the problem at source, i.e. new springs I would go with the progressive bump stops. Rog of this parish makes them.




You could also make your own custom tool tray with both greater clearance where needed and capacity.

Another vote for the fabulous bump stops from Rog.

I fitted the bump stops more than a year ago. They are very effective.

The tool tray is not symetric and some place are deeper. Check it vs the diff and if necessary turn it 180°, you can earn some centimeters.

Great add on, no more crashing from the rear end - should be fitted as standard

The fact that both my Morgans have Rog's assists says it all really. Most cars use some sort of upward movement limiter.

Get the gap right and the bangs vanish.

I’m sure I recall that my MG Midget and Mk2 Escort had such. Seems wrong that Morgan are relying on the bodywork to act as a bump stop.
