Today is St David’s Day. Celebrations are taking place all round Wales. Children are in school dressed in traditional Welsh costume and having celebrations with singing, dancing, story telling. Pancakes too this year . Local newspapers everywhere will have pull out sections with photos from schools.

This seems very appropriate today as other Europeans are desperately fighting for their freedom right now. Nothing has changed in 105 years and no lessons learnt. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2022/03/01/std.jpg) This St. David's Day, we again pause to reflect and remember the contributions and sacrifices of the Welsh in Flanders during the First World War. Near Passchendaele, a red dragon, built on a dolmen (in Welsh "cromlech"), stands in the middle of an area that was conquered by Welsh troops on 31 July 1917. The village would only be taken three months later at the expense of half a million victims. The surrounding park is dedicated to all Welsh people involved in the Great War, both soldiers and civilians.

My father, grandfather , great grandfather & great great grandfather were Welsh. My grandfather fought at Sulva Bay Gallipoli & then up from Cairo to Damascus in WWI.

Great history there John so the park and monument is there for your predecessors, a nice thought.

Dydd gwyl Dewi hapus
Interesting to see the change ... it was never celebrated in school when I was growing up in Wales ... and that was in the Welsh speaking heartlands of Gwynedd.
Hope you've got a day as nice to celebrate it on as it is here in the NE of Scotland 🙂
K . In our part of S Wales the school's always had .st David's day concert, finished off by the eating of the raw leak that we would proudly wear.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

Over the Horseshoe pass? .... if the weather in Wales is as good as here there may be some nice classic bikes at the cafe on top enjoying a run in the winter sun! 🙂
K yep - and they have a loo!, handy at my age in the chilly sunshine!
