I had one of those, used it for 2 years the wind did a lot of damage. I don't think it would have lasted another year.

Inside a garage one of these will be fine Bob. Outside however you'll find in winter the temperature difference between night and day will cause a lot of condensation and rusting if you don't soak the machines in WD 40 or similar.

No worries, Keith, it'll be inside and cheers, Gordon. I have decided to use a caravan awning against one wall of the garage instead. It will probably be a better bet as it is more the size I'm looking for and will save me a lot of money! BTW - I wouldn't use WD40 on the cast iron infeed and outfeed tables, I use machine wax.

Interesting, can I ask why? WD40 has always been the choice in this neck of the woods.

Gordon, WD40 works by attracting moisture so unless you coat something regularly it will rust, Bob is correct in using machine wax or even Waxoyl provided you don't intend painting the item in the future.

I don't think I'd use Waxoyl on the machine tables, anyway, machine wax isn't that expensive and smells lovely.

It's not so much about rusting in my case as the machines are used regularly, it's to help resinous and occasionally damp (whitewood) pass freely over the tables. I assume the machine wax will achieve this? A lot of my work is stained or painted using oil or water based products and the WD 40 has never caused any reaction with either. I'd need to be sure machine wax wouldn't cause any issues in this area before switching.
