Anyone going to this? Confusingly it is based in Chinon in the Loire valley. This will be my first time, looks like a mini Layon thing, non competitive rally with numerous food stops on the Saturday with option of gala dinner in the evening. Demo runs round the town on Sunday and general car fest. 250 rally entrants, pre covid about 40 from the UK.

If you want to extend your stay, this place is beautiful and in a lovely area, only half a days drive south

Sadly we won't have time on this trip, thanks for the tip!

In the GP de Tours/Chinon Classic, there will be 264 cars, including 38 probably from the UK and including 19 Morgans of which 17 from France and 2 from the UK, anyone from TM? There are also 62 motor cycles, including 3 from this side of the Channel, Chinon will be busy next weekend!

Alastair,

Please let us know what this is like. I am interested as an alternative to Angouleme.

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick, I hope you are both well, I'll keep you posted. Next year's should be pretty special as it will be the centenary of the first Grand Prix de Tours.

Yep both well, thanks for asking. That's slightly annoying as I will still be working next year when that is on... I am tied to school holidays... then should be free from Easter 2024. Perhaps I should take my second early retirement even earlier!

Just back from the Chinon Classic aka GP de Tours, what an excellent weekend, everyone very welcoming and good humoured, couldn't have asked for more! The format is a rally through the French countryside on the Saturday, tulip road book provided, though distances only in kilometres, we found an app with kph was essential to avoid wrong slotting and even then didn't prevent it altogether! Slap up lunch in wine cellars is also included, as are coffee and tea (actually wine and more wine) stops am & pm. On the Sunday the centre of Chinon is all about classic cars and motor bikes, with both divided into categories (Morgans are in "GT anglaises" with AH, MG and Triumph) for sprints around a short course around the town centre behind a safety car, great fun once you get the hang of holding back until the car in front of you has cleared the next chicane and then giving yours some beans! There are also lots of exhibitors of classic cars and bikes in a sort of French village fĂȘte atmosphere - it's very popular indeed with a really friendly atmosphere. Check out the rally's Facebook pages for photos https://www.facebook.com/GrandPrixDeTours.

Sadly we won't be able to go to next year's centenary celebrations, but we'd definitely like to go back at some point, thoroughly recommended!

Thanks for the update Alastair... it's now on the list of things to do.

Cheers,
Nick
