It has taken me until today to sort out my pictures from last Saturday. I took more than 1700 pictures. Here are a few.
Sorry - haven't had time to crop them to the ideal.

This Austin A35 was fitted with a Ford 5litre V8 and the gearbox from a Toyota Supra. Very little, apart from the shell and the instruments was standard. The two chaps that built it went to great lengths to make to look standard. The wide wheels don't look different until you get close. Suspension was lifted from a Lotus (Excel ?).

Thanks Paul for a lovely selection and sharing your day with us all - that A35 is wonderful, did you hear it rumbling at all ?

Cracking photos Paul. Sadly I couldn't make it this year due to a family commitment so I'm enjoying seeing your photos all the more. thumbs

Thanks Andy.

We are very lucky living near Donington Park - the Historic is a lovely event. Apparently, they are hoping to return to running a bigger event next year.

Thanks for sharing the photos!
Presume this is your new, lighter weight, photo outfit?

Thanks Graham.

And yes - all Olympus. All the track action is taken with the 100-400 Zoom. It really is a wonderful lens. The autofocus is very fast too - even at longer focal lengths. The camera has an easy to access feature that allows you to change the part of the frame used for autofocus - it makes a big difference with fast moving subjects. Very pleased so far.

A few more from Donington last weekend. I love the way you can get up close and personal with everything from Pre-War Mad Jack up to 80's & 90's Group C cars. The Sights, Sounds and Smells are awesome. Not forgetting the sound of the Merlin of course!!!

Really enjoyed your quality images Paul, I recently lugged my Nikon D800 and 150-600mm Tamron and monopod round Knockhill race track..! The weight of equipment has been a growing consideration over the years, and when I see the quality of some pics captured using up to date phone technology, my Luddite tendancies become somewhat undermined... blush

Thanks for posting Paul..

Thank you. Worth taking a look at a Mirrorless camera - they are lighter and the lenses are lighter. The Olympus is very good but there are cameras from Canon, Nikon, Sony and Panasonic that all get good reviews. You can subsidise the cost by trading your old kit in at Wex or similar.

I had some reservations about the smaller sensor but my research showed that to be a non-issue.

[quote=Paul F]Thanks for adding your pictures Bob. Were you there on the Sunday?

I was there both days Paul. I think we did chat. I might be wrong but was your good lady there with a Satnav cap?

I think you mentioned that you went on the Saturday because Sunday was a better day for riding out.

Then again I chatted with a lot of people so I'm probably wrong confused2

She was indeed wearing her “The Original Sat Nav” cap (as organised by Richard Smith aka Lord Unstone). And yes - Saturday was selected so that we could ride out on Sunday on quieter roads.

It was lovely to meet you.

Thanks for posting, but more importantly, taking these great pictures. I was there on Saturday with the Morgan but just parked trackside in the normal car park. I had no idea there was a Morgan display despite walking around what I thought was the full display area!

Thanks for the heads-up on your thinking re possible reasonable route to lighter photographic kit Paul. At this time in life and skill level I suspect I may well stick with my present kit given the reality of cost/benefit calculations ...

It is indeed the Capri V6 engine. Several racing in the Historic Touring Car Challenge and the Tony Dron Trophy.

Can't remember which car that is, maybe the Broadspeed Capri but not sure.
