I've always been nervous of my TomTom sucker making a mark in the lacquer on the dash, plus the location is a bit high so thought I'd make an alternative bracket, but where to securely fix without damage ?

I decided the glove box door gap is generous, so a bit of metal origami

[Linked Image]

It's fixed internally into the glovebox, mount is screwed to ally and a thin layer of foam on the back to keep it clear of the veneer

[Linked Image]

And there's enough gap for the door to work without catching

[Linked Image]

Quite tidy from the drivers view

Great solution, but the bracket sitting there when not needing the sat nav would not look nice

I've seen a bracket that fits the dash lifter dot near the mirror and when not used it just lifts off...

Excellent work.

Which is what I have. Works well but causes the sat-nav to obscure the speedo in my 4/4. Rely on the GPS speedo I have on the steering column. And mine is a bit scruffy by comparison.

Does anyone know where you can buy a lifter dot bracket, or supply pictures to enable me to make one?

Regards Alistair

Simple solution is to buy the lift dot fastener from eBay together with an aluminium motorcycle tax disk holder. Fit the faster to the narrow end and bend the tax disk holder to suit your dashboard. Then glue something to the back of the tax disk holder (leather offcut perhaps) to the rear of the tax disk holder to protect the leather on your dashboard. The mounting brackets to suit various sat-navs are available on eBay - you need to know the diameter of the pivot ball and Garmin differ from TomTom. Alternatively, you can glue a pad to the aluminium that your windscreen suction mount will adhere to.

Fair observation Rob, however I've tried the lift-a-dot version before and the wobble got annoying, also on 3.7's it totally obscures engine temp & fuel, and partially blocks the speedo with a wide screen Nav

I am very happy with my lift-a-dot Version.

Here an older foto. I have raised the mobile phone with an extra plate So with my actual phone and the actually phone holder I use my mobile phone horizontally.

Also it looks like parts of the dash board are hidden that is not the case because the mobile is placed between the mirror and the dash bord.

My bracket - I used a piece of PE- is sitting like a clamp on the upper part of the dashboard so absolutely no wobbeling,

Some more photos also here:

Nice work. I am in the process of designing something too. This gives me ideas.

Good solution, Jon. Looks neat. Perhaps you should market and sell those !
