Well not in this case, forgive me for posting this in the wrong place but I can’t recall where I read the thread (can’t recall much these days 🤣).
In September I will make 70, never thought I would get here but spotted I needed to apply for an extension to my driving license. Given the reported delay at DVLA I completed the online (apply 90 days before your 70th birthday page) application on Monday (20th). Postman just delivered my new licence today (23rd) absolutely amazed!!!
Seems some sections are working very quickly and some have very long delays.
BR Colin (the licence runs to 2025 which I won’t 🤣🤣🤣🤣)

I've just got mine back after a wait of three months. I finally got through to them and was told it was with the medical department. All in all, an hour's call with about five minutes of actual talking to a human.

Very good point, it did pop up on the online renewal but as I no longer drive the school mini bus or tow anything it’s not an issue but as you rightly say very important to some.
Cheers Colin

Ditto here too........September seems to be a popular month for 70th birthdays! Christmas 1951 must have been a busy time for our parents. I applied for my licence renewal on Monday and it arrived today as well. Like Colin I anticipated a delay so applied early. Well done DVLA.

BTW - have you sent your old licence back to the DVLA? Mine is an old paper version which I've had for the last 38 years and I'd rather like to hold onto it. Will they came a-knocking if I don't send it back?

Will they came a-knocking if I don't send it back? The short answer is no, I never send mine back. Renewed my partners last week online back in 4 days.

Good question - like you, I would like to keep it. Points and all. BTW - have you sent your old licence back to the DVLA? Mine is an old paper version which I've had for the last 38 years and I'd rather like to hold onto it. Will they came a-knocking if I don't send it back?

When I swapped mine out last year I just took a scan of it and filed it away for posterity probably never to be seen again if I'm honest The new thing takes up far less space in the wallet too, the bus pass and it coexist quite amiably in there.
