Those pics are great luddite. Lets face it thread drift is one of the fun things about the site and clan.

My 33 was imported before top gear and films made them famous and had the stock 280hp (320 in truth from a dyno run) but ended up over 580 and was the only car I have owned where it got more and more fun as you added more power. I had a go in one which was 800+ and it was still just about drivable, but not on public roads. If you were gentle you could get 9 mpg.

Whilst it was a bit on the lardy side compared to real sports cars (Lotus etc) it definitely went like one. I left a 997 Turbo in a cloud of dust one day, allegedly.

Just time to rent a thimble more petrol before dinner.

100% agree. My user name is Chris Convertible as I feel a sports car needs to be a convertible which I know will upset MGB GT owners and other GT's but to me the convertible feel adds to the sports car experience. I also like the idea of the car being small and light, I don't count a Volvo C70 a sports car just because the roof can come off. Having said that I would still like a drive of a Skyline just to try, but not to buy. If a place hired them I would be interested in a try for a day just for fun.

luddite, that sound right to me and I am 58. I owned a Honda S600, great fun to drive but had so many things go wrong with it I spent more time fixing it than driving it and i would be scared to take it any further than say 10km's from home. Next I had a Mazda MX5/Miata, Great fun to drive but felt a bit too perfect, around town a bit too docile if driven within the limits but good when taken out on a nice country road. Last sports car was a Nissan Silvia S13 Convertible, more fun than either of the others and I liked that is was rare, but not expensive so was more a car chosen for its merits than any symbol of status. Main issue was like the Honda s600 that parts were getting impossible to get and was wearing out. Getting written off by a hail storm was the end of it for me

I have enjoyed the posts by Peter Gambalunga on his Morgan plus 4 with throttle bodies and liked the supersports like this car https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2012-morgan-plus-four-supersport so I am hoping my MGB with 2.0L Duratec engine and Throttle bodies will be similar. Hopefully feel very engaging to drive with nothing modern trying to take away from fun but also nice and reliable. Similar reason I was attracted to Morgan cars.

In the UK I probably would have gone Morgan but after hiring one which my wife didn't enjoy and much later taking her for a ride in the Aussie frontline which she was happy with I made my choice. I feel like a Morgan it is not a sensible choice but a fun choice. Really we have to have some fun in our lives and I feel these small cars without lots of electronics are going to be the last of fun motoring.

Gary - I do love this thread. I remember as a kid we used to play a game choosing which 10 cars we would own when we grew up. I feel looking at these cars is a bit like playing that game but in an adult way. Funny thing is years ago I would have wanted as many cars as I could afford and was allowed, now I have reached the age I just want one fun car and totally enjoy it.

Well precisely. I can't actually see a problem here. GT cars are not Sports Cars, they are Grand Touring cars. Otherwise they wouldn't be called GTs, would they? One's not 'better' or 'worse' than the other, they are just different. There's nothing wrong with having a convertible GT either, but that doesn't make it a sports car.

Sports cars are stripped, lightweight, form follows function cars where anything that doesn't contribute to performance doesn't really deserve to be there. GT cars recognise that some creature comforts are desirable if one wants to be able to get from Calais to Cannes in a day's driving.
