Another from LeMans 24 hrs. Not Porsche this time.. (-:
Approx 1hr 23 min in length which again gives real insight to the strategies, personalities, stresses and strains of racing around Le Sarthe for 24 hrs..
I have been to LM twice, once for the 24 hrs in 2002 when we drove down from central Scotland in our Morgan +8, to see the DeWalt liveried Aero 8 take part, it was an experience to be savoured for sure. We had booked through a Porsche friend who arranges LM accommodation/experience trips, and stayed a farm followed by château accommodation, both of which were interesting in their own way..(-: During the evening of the race we had our meal at a restaurant some way down the length of the Mulsanne straight.... On approaching the restaurant from the rear standing between two buildings we could hear cars approach then there was what can only be described as an explosion of sound which battered off the walls of both buildings before hitting our ears, all in all not the quietest meal I ever enjoyed but certainly something to remember.. (-:
Our visit to the Classic some years later was a more relaxed affair driving down in comfort of the 4x4 barge with auto transmission and more importantly air con for the LM Classic in what was a very hot Summer. The Classic was more favoured as an event by me. We felt fortunate to have had the benefits of pit access for the 24 hrs, and behind the pits access for the Classic, just to be there and take in the whole aura surrounding the 24 hrs and get amongst all the Classic teams and more importantly see hear and smell the cars as they cooled down dripped oil, water and showed signs of their usage, some sporting patina of all types from evidence of scrutineering going back decades, to rather obvious wear and tear, all of which added so much feeling of connecting with history, I had only ever seen pictures of over many years reading the classic press, KM was indeed an experience to be savoured and never forgotten.
On the other hand the vids provide another level of insight to the excitement that surrounds all that makes LM the very special motor sport event that it is..
As for the more modern race cars, I kinda prefer the GT Class series of race vids, because I can more relate to the cars as they are similar to those one can see on the road from time to time and may even have the opportunity to own or drive something similar. Ultimately though there is no taking it away from the fastest of the fast and the outright winners..?
Hope you enjoy this vid too OZ , along with any others who care to beam it up and may not have seen it before.
