Which satellite navigation is recommended.

An old chestnut I suspect

Grateful for suggestions as to which sat nav to trust. Since I live in Oz and visit Europe periodically international maps are a pre requisite.

Thanks.

For an M3W - For a closed/rental car ?

Is there a reason you would spend money on an external unit and not just get a local pay as you go SIM in a spare handset and use Waze/Google maps ?
Data only SIM's are available at LHR from the big vending machines and are £20 for a month of unlimited.

Reasonable review here if it helps. https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product-group-tests/63573/best-sat-nav-apps-2022

If you are worried about data use there are map programs that do not use data and can pre-load specific maps over wifi in the hotel. Google maps does offer a pre-cache option but I get nervous about having to re-route on those!

Google bought Waze some time back and both use the same engine and data feeds. Waze is more about traffic and GoogMaps is more about whats around you etc. Both give great real time redirection.

EU SIM's allow roaming through Europe but are starting to cut out free UK roaming now and vice versa.

Happy to help if you need something specific. I use my iPhone and Waze from UK across FR, BE, NL quite often and it is perfect. It mixes in to the Bluetooth music and so I still get instructions over the dodgy Abba tracks 8)

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

The TomTom iPhone App is very good - you would just need to make sure you have downloaded the relevant maps to your phone before travelling to ensure you can work off-line.

Either TomTom or Waze on an iPhone will give you a big display on a rental car screen if it supports Apple CarPlay (or indeed Android Auto if you are of an Android persuasion).

I just use Google maps from the phone. It bluetooths through to my car radio providing audible instructions whilst automatically interrupting any music I'm streaming.

A Classic Morgan is not the best car to allow temptation of taking your eyes off the road whilst driving!

as above ^ , I use a Garmin unit in the Aero 8; designed for caravanning innocent!, it also has input for the rear view camera.

On the new Morgan Super 3 I believe they fit Beeline units -

Beeline Moto

I have one of these for the Bike; useful but not very detailed... thumbs

I've got an oldish TomTom that works fine and doesn't need a network connection, which I supplement with Google maps on my phone if I'm navigating through a city where the roads are likely to have changed.

I own different satellite navis (Garmin, a bycicle Navi...) but -here inGermany- I only use my smartphone with apps from HERE or NAVIGATOR. Both apps need a simcard but work with offline maps. The map download costs some time..
