Hi all,

I've just had a call from my exhaust fabricator who is also creating an induction modification on my 2012 Plus 4. He's about to remove the whole factory airbox assembly but wants to know if he needs to remove the bonnet to do so?

Can someone confirm if the factory airbox can be removed without the bonnet coming off, or does it need to be removed?

thinking

Thanks, Dave.

Yes this monstrosity can be wiggled out with the bonnet in place. Worth lifting the coil pack and binning the mount bracket too.

I removed mine with bonnets in place. Glad to see the back of it. ITG intake filter now fitted which takes supposedly cooler air via the gap above the radiator.
Bob.

The air above the radiator may be cooler, but there isn’t so much of it as it gets diverted over the top of the cowl.
Anyone interested in airflow over a Morgan body could have a look at the “Morganatica” site. Under section 02 entitled “Bodywork & Chassis”, click on “Aerodynamics”. There you will find an extremely interesting and revealing paper by Duncan Charlton. He has carried out some very extensive research into airflow over a Morgan body. As well as showing that airflow at the top of the cowl grille is minimal, he also finds that covering of the spare wheel hole actually diminishes top speed; other useful bits like how to simply decrease wind in the face from the sidescreen area. Well worth a read.

What an informative article. I will be fitting a different air filter arrangement once I'm back on both feet; noting that the airflow into the engine bay is positive near to the windscreen is a bit of a revelation.

The article on aerodynamics Doug referred to is here. As he suggests interesting reading especially the increased drag when spare wheel not spec'd and hole covered!

I'd be grateful if people who've removed the airbox could share photos of their filter solution.

Thanks, Dave.

Here’s mine, but it’s a 4/4 so probably a different set up for the Duratec ?
