My first problem with my PlusFour ... ... so I have a Morgan smile
The nipple for the hood is broken. I think that is a rivet.
Has anyone here ever had such a problem ?

Sorry to see this breakage Clemens, I guess you are well within the warranty period.

This company are very good to deal with and have a variety of fittings. I know nothing of the CX chassis fittings but Woolies will have one to suit if you search around a little. If export is an issue let me know the part number and I'll order it and pop it in the post to you.

Good luck with the fix, I know this has happened in the past to the Classic bodied cars and it was a very gentle drilling out of the remains of the screw with a pin chuck if I recall correctly.

Hi Clemens

I'm sure it is a custom bolt as it is hexagonal. There is probably a threaded insert which now has the broken bit of your bolt still in its threads. Get this back out (There are many cheap tools available to do that) and get a new bolt from the dealer.

It was probably broken by forgetting to undo the studs nearest the doors when lowering the hood which puts strain on the pivot. I have done this myself a couple of times, don't worry, and I am expecting the same problem as you have at any time.

Hello Clemens, it never happened to me (until now) because one experience was very memorable. When the Morgan dealer explained my first Morgan to me at pickup, it had happened to him himself when he opened the rear part of the roof. During this action the screw should not break but the roof was very tense. Actually no problem if you get the rest of the broken thread out. There was no thread insert on the 2005 Roadster. The screw was turned directly into the wood.

Thank you all for the feedback. Of course it's a warranty case. The only annoying thing is that the fastener (not the nipple... thanks Rich 😎) has slightly scratched the paintwork. The Morgan has its first service at the beginning of April. That's when it will be done.
So it's not a big deal ... I just wanted to know if this has happened to other CX vehicles.

Hi Clemens
As others have said it is important to open and close the hood in the right order. OK it is in the manual but your dealer should have given you step by step instruction. I know I have occasionally tried to close the hood without releasing that particular fastening. Between my wife and myself we often talk the steps through as done in the right order it is an easy job - even in the rain!

One thing I have found out, having had three with the same hood, when putting the hood up doing the doing the second to last step of fastening down the rear spring catches is to stand directly behind the car in order to push with enough force and in the right direction.

Looking at my own car I guess that the fastening nipple mast be only 2.5mm diameter and with the thread depth would easily fracture off. My guess is it happened in the initial assembly and yes it will be a warranty issue. Don't try doing it yourself!

This ^^^. The fitting is a wood screw, well it is on Trads. Mine snapped off flush, and a pin chuck, after first attaching a suitable washer to protect the paint, (double sided tape) and a couple of nights manually working the pin chuck until I got sawdust......I tapped in a triangular mini diamond file and the remains just unscrewed out. There are a couple of options on length on the threads.

For a short time, MMC used a Dura-dot fastener there, but it needs something with tenacity, so the Tenax works best.

Sadly easily done. Parts are readily available on ebay but I'm glad yours is a warranty job as it isn't fun drilling them out.

The problem with the nipple was fixed on Thursday at the first service under warranty.
Thanks to all for their input 😎

It's a reminder to attach tenax fitting behind door tops last when fitting hood, and the reverse when lowering, assuming CX series have similar. Otherwise there can be significant side leverage on fastener as hood pivots up or down.
