I could have managed the filter. It is reasonably accessible from above. The oil drain for the TR3 engine is right underneath as is the gearbox drain. The engine oil needs changing and I wanted to try the Redline MTL. The oils hadn’t been changed for at least 2 years albeit the car had spent much of the time tucked away in a garage.

Took the Plus4 duratec for its Mot. It passed of course but what surprised me was after changing the air filter to a K&N cylindrical one earlier, just how low the emissions were compared to last year.

2022 - CO = 0.14, HC = 199

2023 - CO = 0.042, HC = 20

I'm not a greenie but still impressed !!

Drove to Berrybrook for them to change the cam belts and tensioners
They also renewed the water pump.
(My 4/4 is a ‘black top’ 1.8 Zetec).

In addition they pressure tested the cooling system, to find the source of Stanley’ recent mild incontinence!
Fortunately all the cooling system checked out and the source of the dribble was located to one of the heater hoses.
(I had spent quite a bit of time trying to unsuccessfully isolate the problem.)

Interesting contrast of stock vehicles in the dealership.
They have a nice range of pre-CX models and a small number of eye wateringly expensive CXs (£100k+ Plus Six!).

Shame it pi**ed down on the way home.

Home now, enjoying tea and Hob Nobs.

Replaced the side indicators for LED's. That's the last of the amber lenses switched to clear with a touch of added bling. These are from Car Builder, and the same size as the the original, so very easy job. Someone called Jon left a review on the site that was most useful.

Very nice Mark. I did similar swap a while ago. My original amber ones were LED as well though. Surprised your weren't. given only 3 years age difference.

Forgive me asking this but why is a change of indicator lenses from amber to clear considered to be a style improvement?

I’d say clear are an improvement depending on the colour of the paintwork, I changed mine.

I turned a knob for the new Quaife short throw shifter. The knob that was in the car was the original that had the 4 speed pattern on it even though the car now has a T9 5 speed. Found a chunk of sapele at a friend's boat building shop that's a near perfect match to the almost 60 year old ribbon grain dashboard...
