Behind the triangular plate is a reed valve that S&S told me was there to prevent dry sumping. I don't doubt you were told this by someone at S&S but I fail to see how the Reed valve that connects the crankcase breather pipe to the top of the oil tank can have anything to do with oil draining from the oil tank into the crankcase, it will have little or no oil in it when the engine is stopped. The only line from the oil tank to the engine that has a head of oil behind it when the engine is not running is the oil supply line. I suspect it is oil seeping through the oil pump that is the problem. The diagram of the breather system is on pages 4-8 and 4-9 of the S&S X-Wedge Service Manual. Nice work with the "new" engine GLLOQ.
