We've had smart meters for a few years. The gas meter refused to connect to the display unit, so it went in the loft.

A month ago, Eon, wanted to fit new meters. They are in boxes in the wall on the drive. Installation went well, but neither would connect.

Today they had another go. The electricity meter finally connected but the gas meter refused.

After much calling the tech people, they determined that our old gas meter had never been removed from the system, so we had two gas meters recorded. The actual gas meter was refused connection because there were two accounts.

So now we wait another month because only "IT" can remove the false account, (and we all know what "IT" people are like!) haha somestick

Dave, at least they have now moved to SMETS2 which means you can change energy supplier without having to change metres - whomever thought version 1 was a good idea, must have been paid by the utility companies in hopes of restricting the options of the consumer!

Gas meter connection to smart meters seems a common issue. My brother had Octopus make three visits before he finally had the gas displaying.

My shed power is from Octopus, they fitted a SMETS2 meter at the begining of Jan this year it's still not reading throught the phone line.
The last bloke that came to fix it said it was a common problem and that when they get to SMETS 10 it might be fully working.!!!

We recently had a smart meter fitted, after having switched from British Gas to Octopus. Switching the account was partly due to the terrible customer support from BG, but also the prospect of more flexible billing by Octopus. We applied for a smart meter as soon as possible after the Octopus account was active, only to be told there were no appointments available in our area.

But not long ago, we realised the Economy 7 supply was not switching on at the correct time, and the timer attached to the meter was several hours wrong, and varied by an hour or so each day. After sending a photo of the offending timer to Octopus and explaining the problem, they flagged it as an "emergency", and an engineer came out the next day. We don't have gas, so rely mainly on a couple of storage heaters and some panel heaters, plus a small Rayburn in the kitchen.

The engineer took less than two hours to replace the old meter with a new one - including an extra aerial for the mobile signal, and a "mesh radio" module. The display unit in the house doesn't have a very good signal due to the thick walls, but seems to have settled down, and depressing us with how expensive electricity is every day... At the moment, we're averaging about £20 per day, but the milder weather should reduce this soon!

IHD's are a waste of time and effort.

If you are on Octopus with a SMETS 2 meter get Octopus to send you a Octopus Mini then you can see real time data in the octopus app on your phone

Apparently the Octopus Mini is still a Beta product with a waiting list of “thousands”, but we’ve signed up for it anyway.
