Last year, I reported on the forum about a cracked windscreen on my less than year old 4/4 Sport. Got feedback on the forum from others with the same problem, some with satisfactory solutions and some without. I got no satisfaction from dealer or factory concerning the problem. Have been driving with the crack and relaying the story to others at auto events and club events here in France. At the urging of my wife who is not happy about spending another almost 1,000 pounds on this toy I convinced her to let me buy, I am going to mount a campaign against the factory for replacement windscreen under the factory new car warrantee.

I am considering a small claims court action (in England) against Morgan. Not sure if I can do so as a non-resident, but am investigating.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone via email who has had the problem or know of someone that has and the solution whether covered or not covered by the factory.

I would appreciate any input from forum members.

Thanks in advance,

Doug

Douglas if you search for windscreen in the search page you will find many entries for new car cracked screens on later models. Probably best you have a little read of these first as background.

I currently have my 3rd screen in service on a 4/4 Sport 2009 with 17,000mls. - One screen on insurance - one replaced at dealers by factory.

Good Luck

What we need is Evo Magazines new test fleet car, the 4/4 75th to suffer a cracked screen! Good luck Doug in getting somewhere with this. I wonder just how many screens have been affected and whether the majority are the trad 9 stud screens rather than Easyup ones.

Last year I had problems with a German company I was trying to buy something from, many e-mails and letters got no results; they even refused to give me the name of their Managing Director which they are obliged to do when requested.

However after doing some digging on the interweb I contacted my local Trading Standards Department explained the situation and the next call was from a nice young lady in the German Trading Standards, she was very helpfull gave me all the information I needed and offered to intervene on my behalf with the German company.

The EU has got it's act together & you can now persue companies across state lines.

For those who might be on their second or third screen, any warranty applies from the date of the new screen i.e. you can be coming to the end of the vehicle warranty but the screen warranty starts from the date the new screen was installed.

The only problem is deciding if it is a manufacturing fault or just a stone chip. Again your local Trading Standards will be able to put you in contact with a qualified automotive engineering consultant who will be present when the screen is dismantled and will write a suitable report, for a small fee of course.

I don't think this is correct - the warranty would only apply from the date of original purchase. If you paid for a second or third screen, then, yes, it would have its own warranty from when you bought it. If something is replaced under warranty, its warranty doesn't start all over again.

I concur with Fjemog, Jaguar changed a leaking engine crankshaft seal, under warranty. 8 months later at the next service, but outside the three year guarantee period, they said that the same seal was leaking again and that I would have to pay for its replacement 850 UKpounds worth. I argued the case, that if the seal needed replacement it was either a fault seal or there was a manufacturing fault. They told me that if I had paid for or towards the original replacement seal, the warranty would last 12 months. Bottom line I agreed to pay 25 UKpounds towards the
second replacement seal so that I would get a full 12 months from the date of replacement. Bottom line is to offer to pay (a nominal amount) towards the replacement part if your guarantee period is about to end.

Amazing how policies on warranty can differ from company to company. My brother had a washing machine replace due to rust in the casing near the end of the warranty period. He was willingly given a full 2 years warranty of the replacement unit.

I had a traction control module fail a month out of warranty on my BMW series 3. They replaced it free of charge and told me I was covered for a further 12 months on it. So yes, it varies from company to company although I doubt Morgan would be so keen to do the same based on how they have dealt with the windscreen issue.
