Totally agree Brian.... and as for going across the line backwards..well it seems the Stig does this for all Morgans..remember he did it in the GTN Aero too..

I agree that TG did a good job, even though the comparisons were offside, the M3W did very well in that company.

[quote=Jack The Lad]Thanks I did wonder and it was off putting .

i have driven the dealer demo in heavy rain along the m4 motorway and have to report that there was no ingress of water down in the footwell. i wore a motorcycle helmut and jacket and i stayed warm and dry.

would it be the same Stig that drove the GTN that drove the 2W, i seem to recall they have made a replacement at some point

Not the same Stig unfortunately. The GTN was driven by the first "white" stig - Ben Collins, he was moved on last year after his identity was revealed... the current on is unknown but rumoured to be a McLaren employee... not in F1..

All in all I think the program probably did more good than harm, because it made the 3W look fun. The show was fairly amusing, and as has already been mentioned, the Hamster did well in his now traditional rôle as the defender of Malvern.

As always with TG some of the comparisons were fairly specious - for example suggesting that because the KTM costs fifty grand that the cars are in the same price bracket as an M3. Really ? You could buy a golf GTI & a M3W for the price of an M3.

They did admit in the conclusion that the 3 wheeler isn't really a track day car, but the way the stig had it squirming around all over the track made the point eloquently. How fast do you have to drive most modern sports cars in order for them to be "fun" ? Hardly any of them are really fun at speeds that are appropriate on a public road; in many ways the 3 wheeler is the opposite of a track day car in that you don't need to take it onto a race track to enjoy strong sensations. Something that can be made to slide that easily, and can give a powerful sense of speed at modest velocities has to make a lot of sense on today's crowded roads.

Anyone else wonder why the Orangutan was praising the Supermarine Bentley for being a 'real car' to drive, when previously criticising Mogs for exactly the same sort of reasons?

PAUL, you are so damn right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking the same, the M3W offers the same "fun"
for much less money than all those pre-war-automobiles

Paul, I have no doubt your question was rhetorical because I know you're a clever chap but my personal opinion on Top Gear is that you have to view it as entertainment. They often put the facts to one side for the sake of a cheap laugh. If I am not mistaken, the BBC via Top Gear, are being taken to court by Tesla Motor Company for this very reason.

The "Supermarine Bentley" isn't a Bentley. It's a Rolls Royce chassis, a Meteor tank engine (what James got started on before being cut off) disk brakes and a modern automatic transmission.

The Aero engine in a Bentley has been done far more appropriately in the Napier Bentley (google it) and the Meteor has been put another Rolls Royce chassis, but bodied as one and a far more appropriate installation. Classic and Sportscar did a feature on it some years ago.
