This afternoon, 3 hours were spent changing my Front Indicator Glasses to clear with Orange Bulbs. A Christmas present from my son supplied by the Morgan Factory.

A Five Minute Job me thinks. Aye! That'll be right. 3 hours later and I have just finished with a cobbled together temporary job.

Offside first - Glass half full of water and bulb rusted into socket. After much scraping and twising I had to break the bulb and use pointed Pliers to extract the metal stem. Clean it all up and apply vasceline everywhere, fit the new bulb and test - Working Fine Now.

Next I take off the nearside and all is well, clean and dry. Out comes the clear bulb, and then the problem here materialises. The Factory supplied us with Two Different Orange bulbs - or should I say One Orange (Offside) and One Pinky Orange (Nearside) Then I discover the Pinky bulb has diametrically offset pins so won't fit the socket (more like 10 to 2 locations) even though it is a 12v 21W as the clear bulb. redcard

By now it is 5pm, weekend and I am stuffed. So I decided to file off one pin and fit the bulb, test, OK until I can source the correct one. Apply Vaseline and refit the glass. swear

A real Knife & Fork Job eat I am ready for my Dinner. I'll be on the Blower on Monday call

Frank......this is the stuff or awning a Morgan.
if you had a ford or a Holden, you would not have the satisfaction of fixing a fault..
Owning a Morgan in this day and age is a challenge and par for the course.
I bet secretly you loved every minuet, upon refection........ and were chuffed when you had fixed it? I bet U were?
commiserations to the daily runner mate......

This so reminds me of me saying to my wife"I'll just go and do this little job on the Mog" and her saying "See you this evening then"

Frank on Monday last week I started to change my indicators to white covers and exactly the same thing happened, the nearside front rusted in. Nice weather and not wanting to be off the road I changed them all back again, just in case after breaking the bulb I then failed to get it out. Not only was it a long 5 minutes I didn't make any progress whatsoever.
I'll put another "5 minutes" into it when the weather is not so promising.

For me it was the other way around. The Dark Orange one has the Straight pins and the Light Orange one the offset pins. So only 5/10 for the factory. somestick
Filing off a pin works if only they were the same colour doh

I'll get a replacement and keep old 'One Pin' as a carrying spare.

I obtained my Lucas replacements from Stafford Vehicle Components. They came complete with shiny reflectors and the right bulbs for much the same price as from Malvern.

5 minute job!!

Changing the RFL in a Morgan Aluminium Tax Disc Holder (the sort that is permanently stuck to the inside of the screen)

I have done it before, so should have been fully prepared.

The holder has an engraved back-plate held in place by 5 minute (as in really tiny) countersunk allen screws.

You guessed it! I dropped one of the screws into the car!!

Not the easiest thing to find.

35 minutes to change a RFL. Is that a record?

surrender

At least the Mog Screen is upright. I bought one like this for the Jag. I fitted the RFL before adding it to the windscreen. One year later it was impossible to get at the screws doh so that was binned for a similar version with a single turn to remove. Fantastic. happy3

I find it comforting to learn that it's not just me!

Luckily I have a competent local garage to do most of my work but I did completely disintegrate one rear lamp when I thought changing a bulb would only take 2 minutes.

Most years for me changing the tax disc is my largest job, 30 minutes is a standard time. In fact, I have the new one right in front of me as I type, I'm psyching myself up for the weekend.

Hm! Looks like one of the first things to do may be to make a tiny groove in the bottom of each lens to make sure the lamp can dry out if any water gets in and then give it all a liberal spray of WD40 to try to protect the bulb holder from corrosion.
