Will be starting the dashboard replacement soon and it has ocurred to me that I have never seen the centre warning light on the dash light up and I haven't a clue what it is for.  Also the two unmarked lower switches which don't appear to be connected  Car is '75 4/4 4 seater. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks.  Neil.

Centre warning light is handbrake warning light on my '76 (I'll have to double check that  ). Switch layouts vary, but I have the same 7 switches with the Hazard lights and heater fan in the same position. The two unused switches: one would be wired for additional drive (spot) lamps and the other? Was going to use my 7th for rear fog lamp, but I would have to find somewhere to mount a warning light... When making a new dash layout it is always a good idea to add one or more extra switches/control lamps for future needs. It helps you keep a tidy dash when functions add on along the way (some of them legal like fog lights in some countries). It also gives you: - The chance to play around a little to create a more balanced layout (looks). - Already assembled spares to connect if any of the other switches fail. If you are buying exotic "hard to find" switches/control lamps, buy some extra, your grand children will cheer you for your wisdom... Added some features on my last home made dash which I later found very useful: a hidden extra socket for navigator/mobile charging, a reading lamp underneath the dash and a flashing red immobilizer/alarm lookalike LED (with hidden switch).

Hi,
Not sure but does one of the switches turn on some sort of immobizier? I used to own a 1975 Plus 8 with a similar dash layout to yours and can remember going to France and switching this on overnight and then forgeting about it the next morning. I tried to start the car with no success, the engine turned but would't start until at the point of the battery finally giving up I looked at the dash and wondered why one of the switches was pressed down. And then it dawned on me! Worth a try.

That's an aftermarket fit Paul. Sensible to put it with the other switches - the first place a tea leaf would look is for one tucked up under the dash... Neil, I doubt that they all came out of the factory wired the same - and after the cars have been through several caretakers over 30 years or so, who knows how things have been modified! M3W - makes sense, particularly when starting afresh.

I've got a battery disconnect on my Morgan for security....
My car has no cigarette lighter so I bought a nautical outlet to install, but don't know of a good place to put it. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas. My glove box does have a door, so I would rather not locate it within the glove box. My preferred location would be not visible...

I've just fitted one. I put it in between the seats in the vertical face of the parcel shelf - thingy. One in line blade fuse and a short length of wire and job done. O cut a cat flap in the carpet for access I may get this trimmed but untrimmed it is almost invisible. Tried it and it works well.
