I'm afraid I have to disagree. The roads in North West Scotland are much busier than those in Cumbria. Granted, the roads in the Lake District are busy, but they represent only a small part of Cumbria. There are some great driving roads that take in Upper Weardale, Northumberland and Cumbria. I have frequently driven for 50 miles and barely seen another car!

Besides, original question, presumably because the OP is going to the factory, was about roads in my region - a region your answer rather belittled... So, you may think they are crap, but there are some very nice driving roads in our area...

I would go along with Jays suggestions, but if you end up at British Camp, don't miss out Jubilee Drive which runs from there along the western (Herefordshire) side of the Hills to the Wyche Cutting.

Fantastic views, plenty of places to park and only a very short walk to the ridge of the Hills if you're feeling energetic - its well worth it. The Kettle Sings near the Wyche end is an excellent stop for refreshments, but watch the approach road, its pretty rough.

I prefer to take the A40 out of Oxford then turn off at Burford, take the A424 to Stow-on-the-Wold, then the B4077 to Tewkesbury. From there it's a short hike up the A38 to Malvern. There are fewer speed limits on these roads, less traffic, and better pubs. The B4077 is a particular favourite.

I prefer the B4077 in the opposite direction - so long as there are no lorries / tractors / Sunday drivers on the climb up from Toddington - a fantastic bit of road - part of my 'test' route...

There are also some nice little twisty back roads off the B4077 around Bredon.

Could you give a couple of pointers on these please Graham?

Went up Northumberland to Norham y/day then over into Scotland no one about we had a picknick at Ladykirk then went for a ride around ended up in St. Cuthburts cave what a view from the top forgot my bins and still no traffic . All day the weather was warm and sunny but somthing was missing if I only had a +8 to thunder up those roads things could not have got any better miles of road to myself , came home as happy as a pig in muck .

Coming from Stow-o-t-Wold, where the B4077 meets the A46 turn right on A46 heading for Evesham.
At Beckford (the Hotel) turn left for Beckford, Conderton, Overbury, Kemerton and Bredon.
Enter Bredon and take left turn on B4079 (towards Cheltenham). Straight over Aston Cross (lights by Ashchurch Camp) and continue to follow 'B' road (known locally as the 7-bends road).
T-junction at end either turn right for Cheltenham or left back to roundabout above.
A Streetmap search for Beckford (Worcs) will show the road.
When I lived north of Cheltenham in Bishops Cleeve, this little circuit was a great little ride on the Yam/Honda etc. I had at the time - just for a gentle potter or knee down scratch (but I think the latter is out now).
Another nice little, former A-road, is to turn north at Toddington roundabout (again off the B4077) and head to Broadway...

Graham. Sorry! I wasn't trying to say "my roads are better than yours"". It's just that I can drive for mile upon mile without being stuck behind someone who only wants to do 30mph.
