I'm on the cusp of buying a 2005 SII Aero8 ( yes this old thread ), I just need to hear some honest input from Aero8 owners here in the States.
So tell me what it's like.

Are there some major drawbacks I don't know about?

What I can't fathom is why Aero8s aren't more popular. They seemingly sit unsold on dealer lots for months on end, at the price of a used 911 or Jag XK.

In my opinion, with a good power to weight ratio, sweet drivetrain, cool heritage, and rarity they, should be on every petrol head's "must have" list. So what is the problem? It all seems to good to be true.

What is the worst thing about owning a Morgan in the US?

Please be brutally honest, try to talk me out of it! For me this isn't an inconsequential amount of money.

Thanks- Mateo

ps. what's the average age around here? I can't seem to find anyone my age that even knows what a Morgan is frown then again I'm a real car nut.

Mateo, Glad to hear you are near bying it. You will have to attend the MCCDC MOG42 with your new jem. Have you seen Jay Leno's test drive of the Morgan Aero? If not, just search it on YouTube. I will be looking for you on the streets of DC.

The worst thing about owning a Morgan in the U.S.? It has to be all the looks you get from people. Why can't they just leave me alone?

You'll get that all over the world!!

I have been in areas of outstanding beauty - but all cameras turned on the Morgan, not the scenery! smile

Mateo can't comment on US ownership but maybe as a true petrolhead you were born the wrong side of the pond. My experience of US cars is based on holiday rentals and thy all only seemed to like going in straight lines.

Having to explain what it is.

My guess would be the size of the marketing budgets of both.

This isnt just a US problem, I went on a run a few years back and a guy in a new R8 had assumed the aero wasn't capable of much, He was rather upset that I'd sat with him every time he tried to pull away, he considered himself knowledgable and a petrol head. The reasons they don't get it are all the reasons we do.

Physical or mental age?

We did Route 66 in 2004 in our Series I (Kermit) and it was a wow wherever we went in America and nobody asked if it was a kit car! cheers flag

I think that you just need to stop worrying about taking a rational decision Mateo and follow your gut instincts. Trust me you won't regret it?..........go for it! woohoo

That is something I'd love to do. I'd be very interested in the logistics of the operation - shipping, insurance and so on.

A very interesting experience Giles we did it as part of the Cranmog group trip. 12-Trads and our Aero, we really enjoyed it and we would recommend it to anyone. If you need further details, I can either PM you or put you in touch direct with the organisers.

Alternatively, there is a Morgan's over America VI in 2015, we've signed up but it is the East Coast rather than Route 66. woohoo

Cheers
Brian

Thanks Brian. Yes, I'd be very interested to know more. Morgan's over America does sound good - but also sounds over subscribed already.
