Love the throttle blip you achieve on the down change!

Hello Heinz
I too have a plus 4 super sport but was unaware that all the ECU were to be changed, I must admit there are times when it doesnt behave properley, sometimes back fires when i turn off engine, tick over can sometimes stick at 1600 to 1700 rpm,it seems to run rich in my opinion, Did your ECU fail completley?

Alan.

Hi Alan,

as I was told that all the 60 cars will get a new ECU. I hope I´m not talking about any secrets... My old ECU did not fail completely. The following symptoms I wrote to another P4SS owner before I knew that we will get help:

On my Plus4SS I´m not sure if the ECU is ok. The symptoms are not so drastic as with yours. It´s just 90% of the time driving with a loss of power. No smoke, just like a 150 HP engine. When I disconnect the battery and reset the ECU it runs wonderful for about 70 miles with so much power, unbelievable. After this period it becomes weaker again and the engine sounds too fat (more dull, the exhaust not longer like a tombone).

And on 23.03.2012 I wrote in a PM:
Today they changed the ECU. It looks like an equal unit, also Omex. I guess the software is new. Yes, all 60 cars will get a new one. First impression is, the throttle is more spontaneous. Fuel consumption is less. The throttle is more sensitive on the foot. The exhaust end looks more like a nice "dry" dark grey and not longer "gloss" black. Sound is fuller, torque on low revs is stronger...

This was my first impression at this day. Since we made our trip to Merano she has about 2.800 km more on the clock with the new ECU. I only can recommend everyone who has a P4SS to talk with his dealer about swapping the ECU.

In addition, when she was running too fat I had some oil consumption, about 700 ml /1000 km. The new ECU runs more meager (or better said "balanced"), no more oil consumption, not one drop.

Thanks Heinz,
I will speak to my Dealer, sounds like I too need a replacement ECU.
Are many other owners experiencing this problem, I have approx 2400 miles covered so far.

The Brands Hatch Morgan +4SS had its ECU replaced. I then drove it, but it still sometimes at low speeds, splutter a bit.

Yes that may be. But also the new ECU must be trained for about 60 miles and more before it is full adapted and gives more torque in the lower band.

Lucky man. On my 97 +4 the ECU played up and it took ages to discover.

Beautifull car by the way.

Fantastic sound (and motion) Heinz.
I remember you had an issue before with the sound of the std Roadster exhaust but this must be MUCH louder? I absolutely love it, but dont think I could live with it all the time. Need a car for every mood I guess. Cheers J

Hi JJW

The Roadster Sports had (for me) a drone issue in a very sensitive rpm region. So I let built new exhausts for her to solve it.

The Plus4SS has only one exhaust line. And you can cruise with a really not too loud car. But yes, under full throttle she can become (very) loud but she is not unnerving at any revs. Only the open throttle bodies (which are on the left side, and car is LHD) can smash your eardrums between 2500 and 3000 rpm with very short clatter attacks. It´s interesting that when sitting on the right hand side this sharp throttle body clatter is not audible.
