The builders are soon finished with our new stable/garage. I am really looking forward to move into this new heaven of creativity. My task will be to fix the inside and a useful interior in the garage. I guess I will spend some time during cold winter months in there so of cource I would also take the chance to make it look nice. Really like the vintage look of Heart of England Morgan's garage (just seen the outside).

Can anyone please share links/photos to inspiring vintage garages (work benches, cabinets, tool trolleys....).

Had 30 litres of quality wall paint (mixed wrong colour) from a friend long time ago, thought it might be useful (hasn't paint started to be pretty expensive?). Opened up the paint today and it was still OK...and to my happy surprise: Sports White/Ivory laugh2

You need some old style enamel signs like "Shell" etc to put on the wall. A collection of those old style oil jugs that Castrol use to do...you can still get them
try places like Holden Holden Classics

Have a look at Longstone Tyres Longstone Tyres they have some great slightly saucy old adverts for free!

If you have room, an old battered sofa and a coffee machine is a good idea!

Oh....and to go with the Morgan, a Pashley Guvnor classic bicycle, 1930's style and handmade in England not that far from Malvern by a company that was around in the early Morgan years! Pashley

Best thing you could do is fill a plastic bin with popcorn and watch movies on TCM. Some of the old films have amazing (ordinary for the times) garages. Lots of inspiration.

On a more serious note I think Vintage = Clutter

Notice the lawn mower and assorted tools and gaskets.

I noticed in earlier posts that you seems to have expertice or special interest in the chemical department? Good to have that knowledge here att TM!

When thinking about it...you might be right regarding the price, I just try to avoid buying all the the new super cheap no brand alternatives - or am I fooled in beliving that there is a difference in paint quality or amount of pigment? spend Anyway, the sports white look-a-like looks great on the walls, second layer applied tomorrow joy

there are app 3 main Pigment manufactures around the world, whom sell to Paint manufacturers at similar prices, its then upto the Paint manufacturer as to the % of pigment-to-Resin ratio they work with (resin been the cheaper product) then the overheads he/she wants to incorporate, ie Reps Staff etc etc. Branding also plays a large part in pricing. example 1x Manufacturer, has 3x different Brands, and 3x different pricing structures, same stuff in either Tin, just Distributed in different channels.

Mine might be too modern a version of vintage -- I wanted it to feel a little bit like 1962. I don't have a Morgan, so forgive the visit from a German car.

I'm a fan of garages. So here are some pictures of what I did with a two-car in Los Angeles. I think it's a good example of what can be done with a modest budget -- and a lot of time. I did all of it myself, from the sliding-door cabinets up top to the ceramic tile down below. My shoulders still remember digging out the hole for the hydraulic lift. Pretty much everything in the place is second-hand, repurposed or home-made.

Benches fold down from the wall:

It looks nice cleaned up, but it's a working garage:

And it's got a video, too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHqixjMXAbo

Last week, it got its own website:

The 12-Gauge Garage Website

The car is a 1972 Porsche 911, fitted up (Frankenstein-style) with components from a few different eras of the model. Lots of information on it here.

What was the last photo - a plug change? Or something more expensive?

Thanks for all inspiration, I will probably go for the well planned...more than the creative cluttered look.

Jack, that is a well planned garage - lovely! Every square inch has its purpose. The wall hung tables are a very good idea that creates a lot of flexibility, will probably copy that...and the colour of the "furnitures" is also nice. Looks like one of this garages you enter on friday afternoon....and leave for work om monday morning (swmbo).

Walls and roof almost finished...next step: wood strips around windows/doors. What about a hardly noticable logo on one wall...but maybe the Morgan script logo will create a more vintage look thinking

Yes, Beaulieu has a very nice garage diorama (in full size) where I can stand an hour and find new items every time.
The problem is only that if you want to work in it, they are always to "cluttered".

My apologies for bringing back such an old thread. But I recently put together a (non-commercial -- hey, I've got nothing to sell) website with more information on my garage. If you're interested, the link is
