They were still building them in Africa (Kenya and Nigeria) from CKD kits until 2006 Andy. I sold our final one last year, still going strong, but we have switched the company fleet to Kia's. confused2

You do still see plenty employed as bush taxi's, particularly the estate, and parts and 'qualified Peugeot mechanics' are available anywhere you seem to break-down in Africa! smile

The current range manufactured in Peugeot Kaduna of 307's, 406 and now 407 are not as well regarded locally, being 'too unreliable' (for that read modern!), and Peugeot's sales must be a fraction of what they used to be.

So let me know if you still want that 504GL and I'll start looking for one to ship to you, but it will be LHD and "fairly used". laugh2

I had a 504 in Kenya, the estate with 3 rows of seats.
A very tough and reliable vehicle.

On the wish list I reckon any of these would do:-

Well, I did think abut it and the double attraction of it being a Welsh car ( built by a Pontypridd butcher and a german engineer) was very strong. problem is, At my previous Univeristy, I used to pass the old workshop every morning and get so nostalgic that I've had to harden my heart. If I had put it on the list it would have ben the early 1800 GT with MG engine
Cheers Boshers

Ok my turn

BL 1100/1300 easy to drive and great for a first car
Very early mini
Escort Mk1 GT or Mexico
Triumph Domolite Sprint
XR2 Mk1
Herald Vitesee convertible
Spitfire Mk3 or 1500
Kit car of some sort
Eastern block car the more naff the better, Skoda FSO Lada etc
Smart or micro car
2CV or derivative
Big old estate car Triumph 2000 Volvo Peugeot etc
One of the last Rovers built preferably Rover or MG based 75
Jag XK8/R convertible Mk 1(now I love the E type but for a useable car it has to be this one)
A prewar Triumph preferably Dolomite straight 8 but Gloria 6 would do.
Something very economical modern diesel like a Panda

And of course a Morgan

And finally I appear to have just made a list of the cars I have owned!!! Is that a cheat?

(oh and I have missed out several other Heralds, Dolomites and a GT6, a Renault 5 and 19, Rover 216, 600 and 800 (2), Peugeot 205, 306 and 309, Volvo 360, Fiesta Mk1 and Mk2, a Golf diesel Vauxhall Cavalier and Astra and some other forgettable piles of rust I have owned in my time.)

Hmm,
Still missing a couple:
Mini Moke

Citroen Mehari (maybe - not keen on LHD in UK, I keep thinking I'm on the wrong side of the road smile )

Africar (6 wheeler) - if nothing else it could be spares for the Mog's ash frame grin2

Your Mexico brings back a nasty memory my mate bought a home made one as we had become rally nuts in the early 70s . He did not insure it for what it was and one January night 71 he was stonking along the old A19 came to a bit of ice and took off cleared a 4ft fence into a deep ravine with a stream . He was able to crawl out climb up the hill and if there is a God he was out on patrol that night as his next door neighbour was going past started work at midnight she was a nurse . Threw him into her car and took him straight to hospital .
I went to his place of work the next day to be told this and told to go and see his car . After looking around returned to be told go down into the wood . Very little of his car remained . While in hospital a long time I had to take his clothes in he would change in the loo go out to the pub and then return to the hospital to change back into his pyjamas . He had no claim and the insurance company quiet correctly refused to pay up.

Yes,a Moke with a downton tuned engine would be fantastic!
Then again,in a Mehari you can drive flat out everywhere, without ever losing your license
