Kind of you to say so Richard cheers

I'm sure I'd be seduced by the V6 as yes, it's in a totally different league to the Sigma but I like the width of the 4/4 and the Sigma is a fun engine too....even more so when I get those throttle bodies on! AND my sump is higher than yours rofl

I don't know if the MX5 gearbox has the (ridiculously) long top gear of the Ford 'box, but I suspect not as the stated CO2 is now +4g/km worse for the MX5 box 4/4.

If I find the gearing too long, then I can alter the final drive ratio at a later date.

Let us all know what decision you make...

The +4g/km came at the beginning of 2011 as a result (I believe) of the move to Euro 5. Mine is down as 143g/km & has the ford gearbox, so it occurred before the arrival of the MX5 box.

TBH, and I´m a layman, usually there is no question that a six beats a four. That is totally obvious regarding people carriers. But if a car weights minus a ton a four can beat a six. That´s my experience. As lighter a car gets as more counts the weight of the engine. Last weekend I could go with a 400HP AC Cobra with my Lotus Elise, 220 HP, 1.8 radial compressor charged up to 100MPH when accelerating side by side.

If it's the 5 speed MX-5 box, you won't need the shorter dif ratios. 5th is not an overdrive gear. One of the reasons I wasn't keen on my Mk1 - it needed an overdrive IMHO...

The ratios have changed a bit since the Mk1 then... Or maybe the Mk1 diff was short ratio...
3000 rpm to get 60 mph in 5th was short for a 1.8i - particularly when my T16 +4 would give 75 mph for the same revs...

Cheers,

I guess this is the gearbox Morgan uses now. Mazda has a 4.1 axle ratio. The P4SS has 3.7. After some 1000km I´m happy with it like it is. Enough torque, "long wind" and also quiet on highways.
