I could do with a Sat Nav but I don't have a lighter/power point in my 4/4 (as far as I know!).

I pottered down to Halfords assuming that I could get a battery operated one but was told that only hand held models had this facility. Apparently all of them have an internal back up battery but this only lasts an hour or so and takes a few hours to charge. I don't want to "hard wire" anything into the Morgan as my son will want to use it in his car when it's not being used in the MOG.

As we are planning a few longish distance trips from next month (U.K. only) I could do with something other than an A to Z.

Any ideas?

As your car is 2008 it should have a power socket in the under dash trim panel just above the brake lever. It's covered with a black plastic lid.

If that's correct then that is great news. I shall have a look. I am finding that there is nothing straightforward with these cars but the longer I live with it the more I love it.

I fitted a power socket to my 4/4
Its under the dash on passenger side, aluminium bracked screwed to frame. Wired to a spare lead under the dash. Wired to a line that is ignition controlled.

been a boon for running sat nav/phone etc on many a Le Mans/Mog trip

This is the sort of mis-information that gets Halfrauds a bad name - it's totally incorrect. Just take a look at the Nuvi range on www.garmin.com/uk and you'll see that many of the in-car models have a battery life of 4 or 5 hours. I bought one for precisely that reason, though I did later fit a cigarette lighter socket ( for phone, battery conditioner etc).
No connection with Garmin etc.

I have a basic garmin device (its a nuvi, but about 5 years old), which I use in the mog. I havent got a power socket either (on my to do list) when the unit is fully charged I can do a 3 hour trip comfortably, so long as I turn it off when I don't need a direction immediately.

I did have a solar charger gubbins (solar monkey, I think) which would run the sat nav for about another 45-60 mins if it was sunny. But some scrote stole it from my car whilst parked up outside halfords in Telford for a few mins (it was in a nice black case and probably looked like a wallet of CD's)

If yours is a bespoke 4/4 rather than a Sport you'll probably find it inside the glove box on the right hand side.

I run a Navman Mio (or Mio Navman - can't work out who took over who ). Internal battery life is a minimum 4 hours, constant running from fully charged. I wired a triple lighter socket into the glove box of my '76 4/4.

I did something similar to Graham buying a lighter socket from a breaker's and then wiring it up to a circuit that's continually on. The socket lives by the side of the passenger's seat.
