Well today was a very special day for me. I finally got my 3 Wheeler registered and have enjoyed cruising the beautiful back country roads in the South of France! What a great little machine, propelling you back to the old days like no other vehicle I've ever driven before.

I have a question regarding a distinct rattle on the passenger's side? It seems to be coming from quite deep into the leg compartment on that side. Big TAC TAC TAC kind of sound? Is it quite normal to have rattles of this kind on a 3 Wheeler? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Oh just one last question, what is the oil consumption like in the S&S engine? Should I be checking it quite regularly or is it good on oil! Many thanks again for your previous replies and your welcome messages!

Congratulations - may you have many happy times behind the wheel. As to rattles...a 2 litre V twin can probably make anything rattle !

Hi Giles, thank you! I agree with you regarding a V-Twin making everything rattle but these rattles are caused by the road surface and not under power but rather when I keep my foot feathering the throttle at any speed, not when I'm stopped and the motor is idling. I have taken the car apart this evening and have found a few loose screws so tomorrow I will give it another try :-)

I can't comment specifically on the S ans S in its Morgan application but there have been instances of S and S Vee twins leaking oil through the rinmary drive, so it ould be a good idea to have a chat to the factory about your situation

A new engine tends to use a little oil until fully bedded in. I would check the oil regularly until you have an idea of any consumption and then you may be able to check less often.
However, it is always good practice to check regularly, together with things like tyre pressures (coolant - not relevant on 3W), battery level etc.

I now have almost 1000 miles on my M3W.

It used almost no oil during this period, it was checked after every journey, but never needed topping up.

A serious rattle developed in mine from the rear bulkhead area behind the seat. This was traced to a broken bolt which allowed the aluminium bulk head to rattle, easily fixed. While I was in there I put some packing between the bulk head and the roll hoops which may also have been the source of vibration rattle.

I suggest you perform a spanner check on all visible fastners to make sure nothing is loose. I did this on mine a couple of times.

I would have to say mine is now reasonably rattle free, but they are definately not refined and sound proofed like a modern car.

But then again they are far more fun. I wonder though how quiet and refined a 3 series would be with the roof and windscreen removed.
