Once standing in a Parts Distributor, i stud behind a Guy who had pre ordered a Hand Brake cable to fit to his car.
When passed the cable by the member of staff, he asked

DO I NEED BRAKE FLUID TO FIT THIS ?, that scared me, i would not of liked to be of been a passenger in that car after he was finished..... i think in your situation Nick, you will quickly achieve sticky gears and a burning smell ooo

Relief; I've just looked at Dave W's servicing post and there it is...LT 71141 auto fluid for the Gertrag box. If Dave says it's right that's good enough for me.
While looking at that post I noticed Dave's brake pipe/fuel tank rubbing thing. Mine goes nowhere near the tank. Could it be that rotating the bracket securing the pipe to the axle forward half an inch would cure the problem Dave?

I just haven't got round to moving the bracket Nick. I've just started work on a mark 2 tool tray so eventually I'll have to take the other one out and I'll look at it again. Glad you sorted the gearbox oil. Those 'in the know' say that the Getrag was designed for that specific brand of oil, which took some finding on line, but turned up at an oil dealers about six miles from here. Whether or not it really matters is open to debate, but forums for cars which use that gearbox have several threads about it. Search on oil for getrag gearbox if you have an hour to spare.
