Just thought I would say hello.
I've been a bit rash and bought a Plus4 SS.

I was originally considering a 3 wheeler, but this seemed like such a good idea!

Thanks chaps.

I've been a bit rash and know next to nothing about the cars.

Picking the thing up on thursday and looking forward to the drive home.

It's a demo so I presume some on here have driven it?

Great choice for a first Morgan, did just the same.

Welcome to the forum. You won't regret your purchase - and your choice of dealer is spot-on too!
We were at BHM on Saturday, but I don't remember seeing your car there. If you are local then I can recommend joining up with the Hopmog arm of the MSCC where you can meet up with like-minded owners at various events throughout the year (usually ending up in a pub !). cheers
Maybe we'll see you at one soon.

Thanks one and all for such a warm welcome.

I'll be driving from Brands Hatch into Central London for a meeting, then up the M1 and will make a bit of a detour over the pennines rather than the m6.

Looking forward to it!

I would agree that you have made a great choice!

The only thing I would change is the number plate.

The original 2011 P4 SS had the number plate mounted on the front wing. You can purchase the stick on plate from the Morgan factory.

Enjoy the car.

Many congratulations - my 3 year old son and I were admiring your car through the window of BHM late on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately we had been unable to go to the Morgan breakfast gathering there in the morning but couldn't resist stopping on our way past in the afternoon. Lovely car !

Best regards,

John

That reminds me, I have to pick up a loaf of bread on the way home from work.... or perhaps just buy a Morgan.

Hi Desolate

Congratulations on your new toy. Nice car and nice colour. I drive the same, same colour. Until now no faults ever, has 8000 km on the clock. Thursday is bank holiday in Germany. We will drive to a place near Firence with her to watch the 1000miglia.
One tip, ask your dealer if the ecu has been changed. All 60 P4SS have got (or will get) a new ecu because the old one was running much too fat. With the new ecu you will get more power and less fuel consumption.

I have covered 2400 miles so far with no problems (apart from cracked screen changed under warranty)these cars a great fun to use

Also had my ECU changed on the Plus 4 SS a few weeks ago, what a great car, my only problem has been a cracked screen, left the car out in the sun and came back to a cracked screen!! never used the roof in 1800 miles so not caused by applying pressure on the screen at any time.
gatewright how did you get a new screen on warranty? I claimed on the insurance company, have I read another thread about problems with the screen on other Morgans?

Well I have collected the car and driven from Brands Hatch into Mayfair.

Very much on honeymoon with the car and feeling very pleased with myself!

Seems well put together, it is decently quick when you put your foot down and sounds lovely. Driving though central London was a bit of an experience - took nearly an hour to get from embankment to Dover street.

The car is much more tractable than I thought it would be - interestingly the idle was a bit lumpy when in traffic at first but after a couple fo minutes settled a couple of hundred higher than previously. Can only spot one minor fault (a rusty screw on one of the wing mirrors) - I even managed to put the roof and sidescreens on in the car park with no drama. Although I have somehow managed to lose the car park ticket which will be expensive when I try to get out.

Looking forward to the twisty bits once I get off the M1 tonight.

Thumbs up to all at Brands Hatch - very welcoming and they have been a pleasure to deal with. Also saw the 3Wheeler in action and what a vehicle that is! Unfortunately I didn't have time for a drive which is probably a good thing as one of the few things more expensive than a car habit, is the divorce that would have followed the purchase of not one but two totally uneccesary cars.

Sorry Chaps, had the minor inconvenience of having to do a bit of work this morning. Most unpleasant. Didn't leave London until after 7 so was a bit late home.

Back in one piece, made it all the way up the M1 to Chesterfield roof down, but then the rain go the better of me and I did "over the top" with the hood up.

To be totally honest, it is probably not the vehicle you would choose to drive across London then up the M1 but it cruises easily at "proper" speeds. I must remember a woollen hat next time as my bonce was freezing.

The drive through the hills was lovely, I was a bit tired so took it easy - the car makes a wonderful noise when pressing on, the brakes have good balance and the power is delivered in a very smooth and progressive manner.

It also has enough torque to pull you through the occasions when you should be in 2nd but you stuck to 3rd without becoming horribly bogged down.

Handling and road holding wise - the car has more talent than me so I don't think I will be challenging it unless I do something pretty stupid.

It was probably more windy in the cabin with the roof up than with it down so I think I need to revisit the manner in which I put the hood together, and the only unnecessary rattle comes from the two stopwatches. Accepting the roof and the side screens for what they are, the rest of the car feels amazingly solid and after a little bit of messing around with the seat perfectly comfortable over what was quite a long trip.

I'll take a couple of pics later and post - if anyone wants to see a particular part of the car just ask and I will try and post.

The stop watches are a funny feature. I have stopped the rattle by putting a small light rubber band along the two watch crowns.

Great advice there Steve - under the seat in my case. An emergency hat is necessary if the number 1 hat gets blown off. I just can't stomach those daft hat retainers.

I keep meaning to stash a small towel in the car too, but the thought only ever occurs to me when its raining with the roof up, and then its too late....

No - it didn't come with one.
I think I will get one retro fitted eventually .
Does yours have one?

I have also enquired about the hard top but have been told that they are not actually ready. I think with a hard top there is no reason why it couldn't be used throughout winter. I am definitely going to get the stick on number plate as well as the brackets used are rusting already and it will look much nicer

Simply superb Morgan, and a great car pool.

Really nice; I am enjoying you sharing the experience of all those who expect to become owners too.

Mog looks great.
Recognised the SI LR in the first photo, just from the wing. Good to see the whole beast in the background! smile

Cheers,

Yes, got a tonneau, highly recommended. Looks good, easy to use, and keeps the worst of the weather off when you are parked. Car was delivered with the stick on number plate, done by our dealer, Russell Paterson in Perth. It's a very neat solution.

just hit the 900 mile mark since picking up and loving it. the weather has been great today so SWMBO went out to pick Child Number 1 from school and enjoyed it as well.

Along some reference roads that I drive all sorts on it performed really well, great balance and a proper turn of speed if you keep your toe down. I am luck to live only a few miles from the peak district so within 5 mins I am on some lovely roads with very few plod.

Impressed - have even started turning thoughts to getting rid of the Bristol and looking at an Aero of some sort.

Hi Alan - look forward to the report - I can Imagine it will be pretty handy on a track.

My car was the demo for Brands Hatch so I didn't spec it. It would have been nice to get a build record but unfortunately not.

I think I will add a Hard Top when they are ready and a tonneau cover.

You certainly won't regret this purchase - it's simply superb. I had the fortune of taking my SS around Goodwood yesterday at the Brands Hatch track day and she flew. She handled superbly and the noise was terrific only to be out done by the Spitfire taking off alongside. Enjoy!

About 50 mins from Chesterfield nr Macclesfield.

The car is going well - I am thinking the only change I would make is tyres/wheels along the idea of a 4/4 to spice it up a bit. I don't think I will bother though. I drove through snowdonia and back over the weekend and it was great for the job.

It is pretty quick indeed when the right foot is used. It was a bit nippy on the motorway stretch, so I used the side screens for the first time with the roof off - it was actually pretty civilised and I was pretty surprised!

I love my side screens, but on the other hand summer has not yet started (had ice on the "daily car" wind screen a couple of days ago (early, early in the morning...but still). oldgit

Interesting Stephen, do let me know if you decide to let the Fighter go?

Brian

P.S. Congrats on the SS, it seems that you are really enjoying it. thumbs
