Can anyone advise is it possible to lift the front end of a 4/4 with a trolley jack used in the centre of the cross member then use axle stands to support.

The front jacking point is the centre of the lower cross tube, which although it looks flimsy, is strong enough. I couldn't bring myself to do this without making a block of wood to spread the load. You can use axle stands at either end.

Yes you can use a trolly jack via the cross member tube to lift your morgan but make sure that the jack cannot slip off the tube. Some jacks have small flat plates to lift the vehicle others are shaped to wrap around the tube. Always use axle stands before getting under the vehicle. I have worked on the front suspension on several morgans this way with great success.

A bit off topic but sitting in the company flat here in sunny Moscow and dscribing what I am looking at one the net my Polish colleague suggests when seeing Dave W's garage an overaland challenge to Moscow.

Having seen the roads today that could be a challenge!
